Wogs in Love is a Romeo and Juliet meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding type of story. Two star-crossed lovers from different backgrounds are destined to be together, but there's one problem: Anna’s father, Niko.
Niko is a hard-working Greek immigrant who has made good in Australia but refuses to let himself or his children integrate into Australian culture. For him, Australia was always the stepping-stone to return back to the old country. And in his own words: “The man who wishes to marry my daughter will have to ask me for her hand in Greek.”
And so begins the journey of how David will win over Niko. Or will the task be too much for the young couple in the end? Will Anna’s younger brother, Costa, come to the rescue, or her mother? Or will her ever-sleeping grandmother have words of wisdom for us all? And how do David's working-class parents feel about mixing with Greeks?
Presented by 4StageProductions, Wogs in Love is at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, Fortitude Valley, from 6-14 July.
