Brisbane wins best bar

21 August 2014

Australian Gourmet Traveller has singled out Brisbane's whisky saloon Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall as the best bar in the country.

Taking out the national gong for Bar of the Year in the magazine's annual Restaurant Guide Awards, the publication had the following to say about the bar:

There's a place for chic, austere surroundings and precision-crafted cocktails. There's also a place for letting your hair down and kicking your heels up to great music. That place is Lefty's.

With Brisbane restaurateur Jamie Webb and Jason Scott, co-founder of Sydney's Shady Pines, Baxter Inn and Frankie's, as its parents, this boisterous, friendly whiskey-fuelled honkytonk was always going to be fun. But even with that lineage, the resulting hootenanny has exceeded everyone's expectations and brought new diversity to Brisbane after dark.

Lefty’s has quickly become a favourite Brisbane nightlife venue that attracts all ages. It features a solid live music offering, catching many bands as they tour nationally, and sets often starting after midnight, finishing in the wee hours. With more than 100 American rye whiskies, along with a hefty selection of rum, tequila and scotch on offer - Lefty's is THE place for a good time.
