Coochie Bike Hire
There are so many ways to explore picturesque Coochiemudlo Island in Moreton Bay on land or on the water, and now visitors can add bikes to the list.
Elly and Dave Hunter of Coochie Boat Hire are delighted to add Coochie Bike Hire to their business, which already hires out canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle-boards, paddle-boats, tinnies, aqua-bikes and a BBQ-pontoon. All are ideal for making the most of the calm and safe bay waters.
They now have a fleet of bicycles, including tandem cruisers, child bikes and tag-alongs, which means people of all ages – and bike riding skills – can get peddling.
Whether it's for a family picnic or a chance for a romantic outing at a secluded beach, bikes are a great way to find your favourite spot on Coochie, only seven minutes by ferry from the mainland.
There is a bike and walking track that starts at the jetty car park and is marked by arrows the whole way round the island. It's only a four kilometre trip right round, so cycling is a lovely way to experience it at your own pace.
The track passes by Flinders Lookout and significant spots including Aboriginal scar trees and the site where explorer Matthews Flinders landed in 1799. Other popular spots include the golf course and Red Rock.
Find your own deserted stretch of beach, or find the best spots to enjoy views of the bay, the mainland, and Straddie, Peel and Macleay Islands.
Coochie is a much-loved spot for day-trippers year-round, but especially during school holidays, long-weekends and the island's biggest day every year, Matthew Flinders Day in July, when the island comes alive with markets, entertainment and out-rigger racing.
Coochie Bike Hire offers tandem cruiser bikes, adult bikes, children's bikes, wee-hoos (seats with wheels for young children), tag-alongs (children's bikes that can be attached) and baby seats. All are available for hire by the hour, half-day or full day.
