Arrive at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat the day prior to settle in and explore the area. After a restful night and hearty breakfast, start the first leg of the walk fresh and invigorated.

The 21.4km Border Track section linking O'Reilly's (Green Mountains) to Binna Burra can be comfortably walked within seven hours and heads through World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park. Traversing diverse World Heritage rainforest and boasting lookouts on the rim of an ancient volcano to spectacular views of mountain ranges and wilderness areas, the Border Track section also crosses numerous mountain streams and cuts through steep gorges. A worthwhile diversion (2.3km) along the Coomera Circuit is an option, taking in several waterfalls including the spectacular Coomera Falls. The Border Track is historic itself, being built using depression labour in the 1930s, with workers from the O'Reilly's end cutting their way towards workers from Binna Burra to create the link across the top of the range. Binna Burra Mountain Lodge provides a cosy base for the night and an opportunity to refuel with traditional country-style fare. The 25.5km second leg continues east through Lamington National Park, passing iconic "Egg Rock'', and heads towards Springbrook, where a challenge awaits – 900 steps leading up to the finish!
