A day out with the family doesn't have have to be expensive, check out these 10 free child-friendly activities at South Bank.

1. Stop by South Bank's famous Epicurious Garden and teach the kids about gardening and fresh food. You can even touch, smell and taste fresh herbs! 

2. Get out your swimmers, slop on some sunscreen and go for a swim at Streets Beach, Australia's only inner-city, man-made beach. 

3. No money? No matter, QAGOMA always has a stack of free art exhibitions on. They’ve also got a cool, interactive kid’s website if you want to start your cultural journey at home first. 

4. Have a BBQ at Riverside Green or Picnic Island Green. Both areas are licensed between 10am and 8pm daily, so mum and dad can enjoy a much-deserved wine while the littlies run amok.

5. Dust off your bikes, break out your helmet and go for a family cycle along the Clem Jones Promenade.

6. Head to the BRISBANE sign at the Cultural Forecourt and snap a lovely family selfie with it.

7. Head to Little Days Out, on every Thursday from 9am-1pm in the South Bank Parklands, to enjoy free craft, dance and fitness activities.

8. Visit State Library of Queensland and read a colourful kid's book, or take part in their free annual calendar of activities

9. Take a free Brisbane Greeter tour and learn lots of inside secrets about South Bank while you enjoy a stunning outdoor walk.

10. Explore the award-winning Riverside Green Playground – it has a towering, bright pink skywalk, slides, a mouse wheel and more.
