What to see at South Bank's Christmas Cinema Series

Christmas Cinema

For eight starry nights, Streets Beach will be transformed into a pop-up cinema, showing all of your Christmas favourites for free! The movies run from 16-23 December and are on at 6.30pm and 8.30pm – here are our top must-see picks.

The Muppet Christmas Carol
This classic was released way back in 1992, but it still holds up as one of the best Christmas films of all time. Starring Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, and the whole Muppet clan (Gonzo, Kermit and more), you’ll be laughing, crying and feeling fuzzy inside.

Home Alone
Macaulay Culkin filmed Home Alone when he was just 10, cementing his place as one of Hollywood’s most famous child stars. In the movie he plays Kevin McCallister, a kid who is left (you guessed it) home alone while his family goes on holiday. Hilarity ensues.

The Santa Clause
Remember Tim Allen from Home Improvement? In down time from his stint as Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor, he starred in this festive flick about a man who accidentally causes Santa Claus to fall from his roof on Christmas Eve.

Elf
This Christmas film stars Will Ferrell – need we say more? In typical Ferrel style, it will leave you in stitches. It’s about one of Santa's elves (Ferrell) who learns of his true identity as a human and goes to New York City to meet his biological father.

The Nightmare Before Christmas
To the uninitiated, The Nightmare Before Christmas might look a little creepy. But once you start watching, you’ll be consumed by this tale of Jack Skellington, The Pumpkin King, who really wants to bring Christmas to his home, Halloween Town.

The Christmas Cinema Series is part of Brisbane’s free Christmas program. Check out the full movie timetable to plan your visit, and head to the official Christmas in Brisbane page to see what else is on.
