What's on at Picnic in the Parklands

5 September 2017

Hip, hip, hooray! South Bank Parklands is celebrating 25 years and you’re invited to join the fun at Picnic in the Parklands, a free event for the whole family.

Held on Sunday 8 October from 10am-4pm, Picnic in the Parklands features kid’s activities, live music and more. Check out what’s on below to plan your day, and remember to bring your favourite picnic snacks along – all activities are designed to be enjoyed with friends, family and food. There’s even free barbeques at South Bank if you want to cook up a snag or two. There will also be special picnic-friendly menus served by retailers on the day, detailed below.

Little Days Out

Kid’s activities

Attention all families, there’s plenty to see and do! Head to the Epicurious Garden for a special edition of Little Days Out, where kids can hone their green thumb and plant their own seedling.

Or if your child is more aqua-inclined, drop by Streets Beach for a wide range of games and educational activities run by Surf Life Saving Queensland’s Little Lifesavers – each activity is designed to build your child's confidence in the water and teach them how to stay safe at the beach.

If sitting back and relaxing on the grass is more your speed, head to the Little Stanley Street Lawn to enjoy musical performances, storytelling, science shows, puppet shows, a magician and more.

There’ll also be roving performers making their way through the Parklands on the day for your enjoyment – keep your eyes peeled for South Bank classics like the butterfly stilt walkers, the flowerpot family, giant garden gnomes and the stone people, as well as a balloon artist and magician.

River Quay

Live music

River Quay Green is the live music hub at Picnic in the Parklands. Located by the river’s edge, it’s the ideal place to kick back with your picnic and a bottle of wine (the space is licensed from 10am-8pm daily).
