City Botanic Gardens

The City Botanic Gardens is the city's oldest park, originally planted by convicts in 1825 with food crops to feed the prison colony. These gardens include ancient trees, rainforest glades and exotic species. They run the full length of Alice Street, bordered by Parliament House on the one side and the Brisbane River's northern banks on the other. They provide a lush green haven for city workers and visitors.

Commissariat Stores

Built by convicts in 1829, the Commissariat Store is one of the oldest buildings in Brisbane and today houses a museum where you can explore many interesting artefacts and Brisbane memorabilia. The riverside site of the stores is located on what was a gateway to the new colony. Prisoners and guards disembarking would make their way past the building to reach the other buildings of the settlement.

Freemasons Ann Street Memorial Centre

With its foundation stone laid on Anzac Day, 25 April, 1928, and built from local materials, the Freemasons Ann Street Memorial Centre is the headquarters of the craft in Queensland and a masonic memorial to those who gave their lives in the World Wars. The grand hall, featuring original furniture from Queensland timbers - silky oak, maple and cedar, one of the State's largest pipe organs and gold leaf ceilings, is a must see. The library on the ground floor has had many books on freemasonry, some with special historical significance and the museum features a range of artefacts, some of which date from the early days of freemasonry in Queensland.

Goodwill Bridge

The Goodwill Bridge is a dedicated footbridge which links the Brisbane River's north and south banks, connecting South Bank with the city at Gardens Point. It is just under 500 metres long but a brief walk along this architecturally impressive structure gives you a whole new perspective on South Bank, the Brisbane River and city. The bridge is not open to vehicular traffic and also features public art installations along its length.
