The British Greets

 Book Now

There’s a historical relationship and modern partnership between Brisbane and the UK…

The Brisbane Greeters are getting into the spirit of the Commonwealth Games by launching special British-themed Greets.

These Greets will celebrate the arrival of the English team for its pre-Games training camp in the city and showcase Brisbane to UK visitors arriving for the Games.

They will highlight surprising and little-known stories about the ties between the UK and Brisbane. For example, while it’s generally known that Brisbane’s CBD streets are named after members of the British Royal Family, many people don’t realise South Brisbane streets are named after former British prime ministers including Earl Grey.

Many people also don’t know that Sir Thomas Brisbane, our city’s namesake, was the first astronomer to chart all the stars in the Southern Hemisphere.

And it’s not widely known that the real-life hero who inspired James Bond heralded from Ipswich – or that Agatha Christie once holidayed in our region.

British Greet Details:

This Greet begins in King George Square at the lions located outside Brisbane City Halls and concludes outside Queensland Parliament House at Speaker’s Corner. Offered seven days a week at 10am (2 – 3 hours duration).
