Founded in 1975, the IMA is the oldest contemporary art space of its kind in Australia. Their mission is to promote experimentation and research by diverse Australian and international artists and share their work with wide audiences through four interconnected streams: production, presentation, participation, and publishing. Their activities embed the international in the local Queensland context and engage the local internationally.
The IMA occupies five spacious galleries at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Art, Fortitude Valley, including the IMA Belltower, a space dedicated to Queensland art.
