Explore epic Brisbane experiences these Easter school holidays

18 JANUARY 2023

Make some memories these school holidays with an action-packed Brisbane escape. With the Easter long weekend just around the corner, Brisbane is bursting with activities to suit everyone!

01. Island getaway

Just a short ferry ride from Brisbane you’ll find tropical paradise on Moreton Island/ Mulgumpin. For the ultimate island escape, Tangalooma Island Resort offers accommodation, to day trips, and a range of adrenaline-fuelled experiences. Jump on a cruise option for dolphin and whale watching (seasonal), or explore the island and surrounds with kayaking, shipwreck snorkelling, sand tobogganing or ATV quad bike tours. For an unforgettable adventure, hop over to the island to explore all they have to offer.

02. Eat your heart out

We hope you’re hungry! Head to Eat Street Northshore where you’ll find hectares of food stalls housed in recycled shipping containers on an old shipping wharf. There are bars, entertainers, shops, and restaurants serving everything from pork dumplings to Japanese pizzas, classic burgers to Korean sliders, Aussie fish and chips to snails in garlic and parsley butter sauce, and vegan brownies to doughnut sundaes.

03. Family picnic

Start the day with a family picnic on an electric GoBoat! Up to eight people can travel on these environmentally friendly, self-drive picnic boats, and no boat license is required. Gather around the timber picnic table with your own delicious food and enjoy the water views.

04. Make waves

Take to the water and explore the Brisbane River from two entirely different perspectives. Riverlife Adventure Centre at the Kangaroo Point Cliffs will show you the quiet side of the river with an up-close look at the mangroves in a kayak or waterbike. Follow your experience with a riverside grazing platter. They also offer rock climbing and abseiling.

Looking for an activity that’s a little more fast-paced? Get the adrenaline pumping with Jet Ski Brisbane’s guided safari tours. Jump on, sit down, and hang on tight while you see Brisbane City from a whole new angle!

05. Explorer’s delight

Make your kids’ dreams come true with a trip to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary followed by a trip to see Museum of Brisbane’s Play Moves.

Lone Pine is the world’s first and largest koala sanctuary, with over 100 koalas in residence. Along with 70 species of other Australian native animals, you’ll see everything from free-flight raptor shows to sheepdog demonstrations. The kids will love feeding the kangaroos and holding a koala. Make it a full day excursion with a Mirimar River Cruise to get there.

As MoB’s largest participatory exhibition to date, Play Moves invites people of all ages to surrender themselves to the art of play. Dance, weave and move your way through six breath-taking installations and make the art around you come alive!

06. A hole in one

Head to Victoria Park Putt Putt, where their Candyland themed 18-hole mini-golf course is truly choc-full of fun! If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you won’t want to miss the chance to swing through this sugar-coated course. Parents can join in on the fun or relax at the bistro.

07. Choose your adventure in the regions

Set off on an adventure to Summerland Camels in the Scenic Rim (under an hour from Brisbane) for some serious school holiday fun! Visit on Wednesday 5 April for their popular Little Farmer’s Humpty Day or anytime to pat and feed their friendly camels.

Nestled amongst eucalypt trees and featuring a large outdoor koala enclosure and many interactive displays, the Daisy Hill Koala Centre in Logan is a unique place to learn about koalas and their conservation. Admission is free! If you are looking for more action, hop in a new Schumacher Go Kart at Kingston Park Raceway and feel the speed on the 1100 metre international standard circuit.
