Create the perfect picnic in Brisbane
There are only three simple things you need to create the best picnic; delicious food, essential picnic-ware and of course the perfect location. We’ve put together your go-to list for creating the perfect picnic for your friends and family on those sunny Brisbane days.
Food
If you're looking for a throw-together picnic, then Rosalie Gourmet Market should be your first stop. Here you can select the creamiest cheese, freshest bread, delectable patisserie items and, of course, ready-made meals. The deli is renowned for its high-quality food from around the world, supported by the best in fresh local produce. You can even pick up some flowers along the way – perfect!
Hawthorne Garage is a corner fruit shop, gourmet deli and grocer all in one. Opening early and closing late, owners Dan and Andy stock the corner store with a range of specialist food brands, fresh local produce and gourmet treats. It is sure to become your one-stop picnic shop!

Visit the Jan Powers Markets at the Powerhouse bright and early on Saturday to get all your picnic needs. With more than 200 stallholders bringing you the highest-quality farm-fresh produce, breads, meat, fish, poultry and sweet treats, it’s one of the best places in Brisbane to "get fresh".
This place is a foodie paradise. With a wide range of fresh produce from local Australian growers, as well as gourmet bread and bakery items you will leave with a full picnic basket. At the gourmet deli, you’ll find local, national and international olives, dips, chesses, meats and more, as well as pre-made sandwiches and wraps. On the way out, why not grab some fresh flowers and a coffee.
This is our favourite one-stop shop in West End for all things picnic. With local produce and artisan foods all in one spot its hard to choose. We recommend hitting the deli for a huge selection of marinated olives, antipasto and cured meats to design your own charcuterie board or pick up a slice or two of ready to eat homemade quiche.
Picnic-ware
Biome, Brisbane CBD and Paddington
The Biome stores are overflowing with the perfect picnic-ware products that also meet an earth-friendly criteria. Funk up your picnic with retro striped straws; cool down your meals with insulated picnic bags and, of course, don’t forget the plates and cutlery.
Wheel & Barrow, Fortitude Valley, Carindale, Upper Mount Gravatt and Indooroopilly
Whether your picnic is for 2 or 4 people Wheel and Barrow offer some super cute picnic baskets which include cutlery sets, wine glasses, bottle openers, plates, and a cooler bag. The sets are charming perfect for that Insta shot.
Location, location
Known as one of Brisbane’s most spectacular locations, River Quay Green is the ultimate place for kicking back with a picnic and unwinding. Nestled on the edge of the Brisbane River, this idyllic location has uninterrupted views of the water and the city skyline. There is also plenty of soft grass to uncurl on while you enjoy the company of good friends, good food and wine – this is one of Brisbane's only licensed parks!

Stunning river views and thriving foliage make Riverside Green a truly beautiful picnic space. The area is a popular destination for families with its gentle breezes and free leisure facilities, including playgrounds for the kids. If it’s a hot Brisbane day (and most likely it will be!) you can even have a leisurely swim at Streets Beach and the Boat Pool.
Be sure to bring along your deck chairs and picnic rugs for a fun-filled day that can be enjoyed by the young and the old. Relax under the trees and enjoy the breeze in the beautifully shaded surrounds of New Farm Park.
Offering impressive views from dusk 'til dawn, you can’t go past Kangaroo Point Cliffs for your picnic. Sit back and relax with the gorgeous city skyline and the river views while you soak up the beauty of Brisbane. At the cliffs' base you can fire up the gas barbecues to get your picnic started, but don’t forget to look up and appreciate the vibrant Expo '88 sculptures. If you’re feeling active after your picnic feast, why not go for a stroll or a cycle on the walking and cycling tracks. Feeling extra-adventurous? You might even consider abseiling down the cliffs.
