Where to practise yoga in Brisbane

Harlow Hot Yoga

Like to pretzel yourself into astavakrasana? Or just looking for a place to om the day’s worries away?

Whichever way you do your downward dog, Brisbane’s got the yoga style for you. Kick off your shoes and roll out your mat at these Brisbane yoga classes.

Stretch Yoga

Hatha yoga is the perfect place for beginners and stretch seekers. It’s a traditional class accessible to all levels of experience. For a balanced practice, we suggest you take your tights along to a class at Yoga in Daily Life in Newstead, Zen Yoga in Sherwood, Rebalance Pilates & Yoga in various locations or Stretch Yoga in the city.

Yin and Restorative

Looking for total relaxation and restoration? You’ll find it in a deep stretch class at Stretch Yoga in the city and Holland Park, or the yin flow, yin or restorative class at Inna Bliss Yoga at Bulimba, Wynnum and Camp Hill. Ooooooom.

It may take two to tango but it will only take one to Ashtanga. If you’re getting serious about your practice, this might just be the next step. Challenge yourself at Ashtanga Yoga Shala at Paddington and Sunnybank, Atma Yoga in the city, Home of Yoga in New Farm, Zen Yoga in Sherwood or Soul Space at Newmarket.

Shri Yoga Brisbane

For an upbeat practice involving sun salutations, warrior poses, breath and flow, find yourself a Vinyasa class. Our favourites are at Shri Yoga in the city, Cultivate Calm Yoga in East Brisbane, Home of Yoga in New Farm, Being Yoga in Ascot or the Australian School of Meditation and Yoga in West End.

Yoga meets workout in a Power Yoga class where Vinyasa is sped up and poses are held for longer to get the legs, arms and abs burning. You’ll leave feeling Zen after having to concentrate on not falling on your face the hour – it’s great. Find your edge at Raw Power Yoga in Albion.

Hip hop

Yo Yoga

So, this is a thing now. Hip hop yoga has joined the scene and can be practised out of Stretch Yoga in the city and Holland Park. It’s a Vinyasa/Power class to your favourite hip hop tunes. Prepare to get sweaty and shake your booty to Drake and Rhianna.

Just in case it’s not hot enough for you in Queensland already, you can take a class in 40-degree heat with the humidity at 40 per cent for your salty, sweaty, detox pleasure. Sounds like you? Try it out at Bardon Yoga, Bikram Yoga North Brisbane, Bikram Yoga The Gabba or Fire Shaper in Salisbury.

Flex Hot Yoga

Not the same thing as Bikram (ask any yogi) – hot yoga is the practice of Power or Vinyasa yoga in about 30 degrees. Warm up your practice at Harlow Hot Yoga in Newstead, Flex Hot Yoga at Norman Park, Fusion Hot Yoga at Kangaroo Point, Voodoo Yoga in Sandgate, Zen Yoga in Sherwood and Zama Yoga in Toowong.

Aerial Yoga

Yoga in a hammock? This is something we could get used to. Give it a go at Flight Skool in West End.

Acro Yoga

Clayfield Yoga Studio

Sometimes referred to as partner yoga, acro livens up the practice by lifting people into the air and delivering a floating massage. Head along to a session at Clayfield Yoga Studio or find a workshop with Acro Yoga Brisbane to get involved.

Pregnancy/Mums and Bubs

Expecting mums and those with little ones can get their yoga fix at Soho Yoga in Newmarket and Fortitude Valley and Yoga Baby classes across Brisbane.

Feel Good Program - Yoga

For penny-free practice that’s usually Vinyasa-style, take your yoga mat along to a Sunday session at Lululemon in James St & Indooroopilly. The Medibank Feel Good Program at South Bank also hosts free outdoor yoga in autumn and spring.

Festivals and events

Want to immerse yourself in all things yoga, meditation, health and wellbeing? Get involved in Yoga Fest – a weekend-long yoga festival in Brisbane. Wanderlust also boasts a day of yoga activities around autumn each year and International Yoga Day sees a bunch of community classes across the city.
