Where to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Brisbane

The countdown is on – where will you spend NYE this year? From all-inclusive party packages to special dining and alternative NYE ideas, we’ve rounded up the best spots and ideas Brisbane has on offer. Gather the squad and get around it.

Where will the fireworks be?

The main big city fireworks display go off over South Bank and will be at 8.30pm and midnight (each show is 10 minutes). The best viewing spot is from South Bank from the Clem Jones Promenade, Streets Beach and River Quay. More details on the celebrations here.

Eagle Street Pier, Howard Smith Wharves and Portside Wharf will have a fireworks display firing from the Brisbane River at both 8.30pm and midnight, lasting 10 minutes.

Please note, no fireworks will go off on the Story Bridge or from the top of CBD buildings.

Blackbird | $230 five-hour package

For five hours the bar will flow free with Moet & Chandon, cocktails, spirits, beer and wine. Succumb to your guilty pleasures this New Year's Eve at The Boom Boom Room with delicious Chinese canapés premium beverage package with Veuve Clicquot, cocktails, spirits, beer and wine. There will be live music and guest DJs to get you in the mood for 2019. 

Byblos | $189 5.5-hour all-inclusive

Experience New Year’s Eve under the stars at Byblos with live music, entertainment and fireworks at Portside. Tickets include buffet food stations, substantial canapes and a five-and-a-half hour booze package with spirits, beer, cocktails and wine included. There will be two fireworks shows at 8.30pm and midnight.

See in 2019 at Cloudland’s glamourous New Year's Eve Ball. Regular tickets include four-and-a-half hours of sparkling, beer, wine and basic spirits, plus substantial canapes. Treat yourself to the Elyx Lounge for additional Absolut Elyx cocktails or a VIP ticket and your package will include Mumm champagne, Belvedere vodka and access to a private room with VIP bar. All aboard! Darling & Co is hosting a Mediterranean Summer Nights Party. Transport yourself to a Mediterranean wonderland with a five-hour all-inclusive package that includes summer cocktails, premium spirits, beers and wines, plus live entertainment and DJs. The fun kicks off at 7pm.

Celebrate the year that was before you're forced to face 2019 as The Defiant Duck is hosting an all inclusive best & worst of 2018 party. Get ready for what promises to be a wild night with beer, wine, sparkling, selected cocktails, basic spirits and delish finger food.

Kookaburra Showboat Cruises | $189 - $199 boat cruise package

You've got two options here. Take a prime position on the outdoor decks with a contemporary buffet (seafood included) and a glass of sparkling or beer on arrival. Watch the midnight fireworks and party to DJs throughout the evening. Indulge yourself with this lavish New Years Eve cocktail party at Persone in Brisbane Quarter. You'll receive sweeping views of the South Bank fireworks, delicious canapes, and a four-hour beverage package including beer, wine, spirits and prosecco. The Regatta Hotel | $150 + BF four-hour package

With a prime spot at South Bank (where all the epic firework biz will be going down) this is one venue to keep an eye on. Starting at 7:30pm, join the South Bank Beer Garden’s all-inclusive premium food and beverage package - menu TBA. 

Stamford Plaza | $99-$199 buffet and/or dinner dance package

Celebrate New Year’s Eve in style by the river with a seafood buffet at Stamford Plaza Brisbane. There are two sessions on offer and both are family friendly. The early bird buffet runs from 5-7.30pm, while the later buffet starts at 8.30pm and includes the dinner dance with live entertainment by Brown Suga and a 3.5 hour drinks package.

Story Bridge Hotel | $20 - $149 beach party or 4.5-hour package

Party your way into the new year at the Story Bridge Hotel. Plenty of Brisbane restaurants are hosting special set-menu or a la carte dinners. Say goodbye to 2018 with a fancy last supper at the following venues.

Aria Brisbane | $180pp three-course dinner

Treat yourself to an exquisite dining experience on New Year's Eve at Aria. Guests will be welcomed with a glass of champagne and canapes before enjoying a three-course menu (we suggest asking for the wine selection given Aria won best wine list in the country this year). When the fireworks start popping, panoramic windows will give you a slice of the action. Children's menu available for $65.

Belvedere Bar & Grill | $99 three-course dinner

Sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere while enjoying a delicious three-course set menu at Belvedere Bar & Grill. Portside Wharf has fireworks at 8.30pm and midnight.

Donna Chang | $128 four-course dinner

This new Brisbane City venue is hosting a four-course dinner for those wanting to eat their way into the new year. Indulge in an Italian feast this NYE at Portside Wharf. The family friendly Gusto da Gianni has riverside views, perfect for catching the 8.30pm and midnight fireworks.

Watch the new year sweep in from one of Brisbane’s best vantage points. Have an early three-course meal and Aperol Spritz on arrival before you go off to see the fireworks. Three Blue Ducks | $105pp - $220pp and $60 per child

Bask in the incredible view of New Years Eve from Three Blue Ducks. The first sitting is for families and early birds and includes a three-course dinner and glass of sparkling on arrival, followed by a later sitting for revellers chasing flowing drinks with a four-course dinner and four hour beverage package, fireworks over South Bank at 8.30pm and midnight.

Alternative NYE ideas

Woodford Folk Festival

Woodford Folk Festival

The iconic Woodford Folk Festival features thousands of artists across hundreds of performances over six days. Go for the whole festival or buy a day pass – going on 31 December is particularly fun-filled. Once inside the festival, take your pick from a range of stages or join the annual Hogmanay concert. On NYE the festival experiences three minutes of silence before a bell rings out and everyone screams and shouts. Then head up the hill to watch the sun rise on 2019 as Tibetan monks welcome the new year.

Queensland Pops Orchestra NYE Gala Concert

Inside QPAC enjoy a theatrical performance featuring Eddie Muliaumaseali’I, virtuosic clarinet player Paul Dean, and young pianist Oscar Wong, along with the full Pops Orchestra. Plus, there'll also be a special appearance from the Queensland Ballet and Emma  Kavanagh from QCGU. Two performances: 5.30pm and 9pm.

Riverlife Paddle & BBQ

Say a memorable farewell 2018 and welcome in 2019 with a touch of adventure. At 6.45pm embark on an illuminated kayak tour of the Brisbane River. Once back on dry land, a barbecue buffet will be served with dessert, beer and wine from this prime river front location. Dance the night away and toast champagne at midnight. Tickets: $119

Story Bridge Adventure Climb

Climb the bridge by night and you'll be top of the world when the fireworks bring 2018 in with a bang. Take in 360 degree views of the city as the midnight fireworks show lights up the sky. Tickets sell fast, so don't delay.

Hire a private gondola on NYE and experience the South Bank fireworks from the Wheel of Brisbane. Get in early and see the 8.30pm fireworks ($149), or stay for the midnight fire show ($299). Each gondola holds eight people with a maximum six adults.
