Pre and post theatre South Bank - Visit Brisbane

Have the ultimate pre and post-theatre experience at South Bank

6 January 2016

Booked tickets to a show at QPAC? This is your guide to the best places to eat, things to see and do, and where to stay before or after your performance.

No matter what time of day, there is always something happening in the heart of Brisbane's Cultural Precinct at South Bank, from world-class art exhibitions to fine dining and trendy bars.

Grumbling tummy before the show? The Queensland Performing Arts Centre is surrounded by a number of top-class restaurants, gastropubs and cafes.

For craft brews and fancy pub food head across the road to The Charming Squire, for incredibly crisp pizza and fresh pasta try Julius Pizzeria. Champ Kitchen & Bar is just next door, Bacchus for fine dining, or QPAC itself has both a restaurant and cafe. Hot tip – if you’re running late, head to the QPAC cafe – they won’t serve you hot food if it means you’ll miss the show, but have snacks for on-the-go.

Not far away lie the many restaurants and bars of downtown South Bank. Follow the Arbour a short five-minute walk to find Grey St, Little Stanley St and Stanley Street Plaza. For the post-theatre crowd, there are lots of dessert cafes along these streets for a late-night treat.

See & Do

Galleries, a beach, edible garden, street theatre, markets, pop-up events and more – South Bank always has something going on.

If you’re taking it easy before or after the show, go for a stroll along the riverfront Clem Jones Promenade, visit the Epicurious Garden and take a ride on the Wheel of Brisbane.

Got the whole day to kill before your evening show? Check out what’s happening in the two galleries at QAGOMA, wander The Collective Markets, pop over the river for world-class shopping on Queen Street Mall in the CBD.

Out-of-towners will need to plan where to stay that night, and the two closest hotels are Rydges and Mantra at South Bank.
