Where to watch this year's Riverfire - Visit Brisbane

Where to watch this year's Riverfire

It’s the finale of Brisbane Festival and boy, does Brisbane put on a show for Riverfire!

The hardest part is finding where to watch, so we’ve done the legwork for you. Here’s our top picks for the best seats in the house come 28 September.

Don't miss out on being part of Brisbane's most exciting night of the year.

Pack a picnic and blanket and watch from Wilson’s Lookout, City Botanic Gardens, Kangaroo Point Cliffs, Bartley’s Hill Lookout or Captain Burke Park.

The South Bank Parklands come alive with crowds of people vying for a coveted spot along the Clem Jones Promenade, River Quay and Cultural Forecourt. Dine at one of the many restaurants or pack your own picnic.

Perfectly positioned to capture the moment and soak up the atmosphere is the City Riverwalk, which boasts front row seats to the Story Bridge.

Gather family and friends and beat the crowds by checking out some of the best-kept-secret locations in the suburbs for enjoying the Riverfire festivities.

Important to note:

  • South Bank is an alcohol-free area
  • To ensure public safety at the event, security will be conducting bag checks upon entry to the Parklands. Bag checks will begin at 9am.
  • Pets, bikes, scooters, drink bottles with broken seals (including bottles of water or soft drink), metal cutlery, glass and alcohol are not permitted and will be confiscated by security staff upon entry. If you are unsure whether to bring something, please contact [email protected].
  • The event does attract crowds, so arrive early to secure a good vantage point.
  • For people who have limited mobility, access is available at South Bank, Eagle Street Pier, Riverside Centre and Captain Burke Park.

For a night to remember, book one of the many packaged events happening around the city and South Bank. Get in early as places are snapped up quick with revellers who are after the full Riverfire experience.

Brisbane City

From a four-course Italian feast at Otto Ristorante to a river cruise on the Kookaburra Queen, check out our roundup of Brisbane City locations where you could spend your evening. Here's a couple of our personal favourites.

Howard Smith Wharves

Keen to lie on the lawns at HSW to watch Riverfire? Well you can! Choose from a basics parkland package to chill on the grass, or a premium riverfront package that includes a bottle of Chandon, reserved beanbags and access to the riverfront stairs. Beneath the yellow-and-white-striped umbrellas enjoy one of Brisbane’s top Riverfire venues. The casual open-air riverfront venue has 180-degree views of the river and Story Bridge. No need to fight for a riverfront spot here, as a table at Popolos guarantees you views of the fireworks. Think a three-course meal including slow roasted porchetta, duck ragu pappardelle and pumpkin & ricotta ravioli. Quench your thirst as you sit for three hours sipping on prosecco, wine, Aperol, Pimms, beer and non-alcoholic drinks – delizioso!

Price: $165 per person.

Kangaroo Point

The Kangaroo Point Cliffs are easily one of the best spots to watch the fireworks unfold. We think it's fair to say these venues offer an epic view with the benefit of food and drinks included – winning.

For magnificent city views surrounded by the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, head to Riverlife for a special evening of delicious food, drinks and live entertainment. Here you'll find pop-up food stalls, two DJ's, 80's music playing all night and even the opportunity to add on a kayak tour during the fireworks. Sounds like a pretty good way to watch Brisbane come to life under the stars.

Price: $99 - $150 per person.

Eagles Nest

Eagles Nest

Eagles Nest has taken a standard Riverfire package and multiplied by 100 to offer each couple overnight accommodation, access to the Panorama Room's 11th-floor balcony to view the fireworks, buffet dinner for 2 in Lamberts Restaurant, drink credit, check-out at 12pm and one car park. We know, we're blown away too.

How does fish and chips with a side of fantastic views sound? Forget your usual cheese board, because One Fish, Two Fish is packing up a classic picnic for you to take to the cliffs. There are options for two, four and families. Make sure you book in advance to ensure you're nibbling on battered cod, quarter flounder burgers, panko-crumbed calamari and beer-battered fries in time for the fireworks.
