This is a region rich with fertile soil that produces food that feeds much of Australia. The Lockyer Valley’s award-winning produce is sent to markets in all major Australian cities, with more $250 million worth sold each year.
Home to some of Australia’s largest and most well-known farming operations, it is a top producer of corn and beans, and has Queensland’s largest organic farm.
Head straight to the heart of it all and pick up produce direct from the farmer, or find the goods at these local stores and stalls.
Local grocers & producers to visit

Purveyors of paddock-to-plate meat for more than 60 years, the Schulte family’s range of smallgoods alone is worth the trip here. Fortunately, within the building they also have a fruit and veg market, a deli and wine-tasting from Ballandean Wines and Preston Peak Winery – making this a true one-stop shop for the Lockyer.
Missed market day or just want to hunt down top products from local producers? Pop by the visitor centre at Lake Apex to pick up local honey, locally made jams, preserves, chocolate and more.
Experience a quality boutique winery and enjoy the breathtaking views at Preston Peak. Drop by the cellar door for wine tastings from 10am-2pm Wednesday to Sunday.

Drop by the farm on seasonal open days to learn about growing organic veg, gardening at home, healthy eating and more. The Bauers have been on the land since 1885 and grow organic potatoes, carrots, garlic, lucerne and more.
Producer of homemade crafts and toiletries, make an appointment to stop by the boutique farm shop. The cottage is nestled between fields of lavender where you can also meet Basil and Polly the donkeys, and cats Dexter, Lucy and Floyd. You can also find these products at the Mulgowie Markets, Mulgowie Hotel and Lake Apex Visitor Centre.
Local products to hunt down
Pick up jams, pickles and relishes from this farm at the Mulgowie Markets or the Mulgowie Hotel. The farm predominantly bottles what it grows.
Locally grown and chemical free olives are used to produce infused olive oils. Find them at the Mulgowie Markets or Mulgowie Hotel.
Raw, unpasteurised honey is the way Phil and Robyn Dunlop like it – straight from the bees. Phil also creates a creamed honey, sometimes with cinnamon and ginger added. Pick it up at the Lake Apex Visitor Centre.

Mulgowie Markets
Love cheese? You’ll love Emmos. This small farmhouse cheese business is based in the Lockyer and produces a camembert-style goat’s cheese called Nannybert that has won several awards. Find some at the Mulgowie Markets or Mulgowie Hotel.
Pick up a pickle or chutney that is from locally sourced produce and made by people with a disability. Find Kitchen Kreations at the Lake Apex Visitor Centre.
They claim to produce Australia’s best chilli chocolate – and we guess you’ll have to taste it to judge for yourself. This artisan chilli chocolate is produced in the Lockyer and can be bought at the Lake Apex Visitor Centre, Schulte’s Meat Tavern or online.

Journey up Glagstone Creek way and stop off at 9Dorf Farm's gate. A 4th generation family owned farm you can purchase organic and free-range local produce fresh from the farm. Check out their impressive aquaculture operation and purchase some of their fresh Murray cod.

Located in the Helidon Hills, visit the purpose-built cheesery, milking parlour and farm gate outlet. Here you can buy all the cheese and see the woolly little guys who helped make the tasty treats possible.
Grab delicious leafy greens, herbs and edible flowers from Ghost Gully Produce farm gate. This family operated farm grows hydroponic lettuce and herbs which are hand harvested and packed.
