Wellington Point:
Things to do at the seaside suburb south of Brisbane

18 JANUARY 2023

Perched on the tip of a peninsula, Wellington Point is a bustling, friendly seaside suburb on the Redlands Coast – just 22km south-east of Brisbane. On weekends, locals and visitors flock to the water to cool off or seek some adventure, and cafes and restaurants are filled with day trippers sampling the region’s best food and drink. Here are a few things you can do at Wellington Point.

Water sports

Bordered by water on both sides, Wellington Point is known as a great spot for fishing, boating and various water sports. Lovers of adventure can join locals and visitors in the water and jump on a jet ski, wind surf or kitesurf.

Sample the Redlands Coast’s best fresh seafood

From freshly shucked oysters and seafood platters to classic fish and chips, Pippy Fish Café is a must-visit local haunt for lovers of seafood. Pippy Fish Café is focused on supporting local and independent producers, sourcing the freshest local and sustainable daily catches and boast a stellar lineup of craft beer and wines - locally made wherever they can.

Fishing or walking the pier

The Wellington Point Jetty is the ideal spot to cast your fishing line and exchange stories with local and visiting anglers, who gather in droves at this much-loved haunt. It’s also a popular spot to walk dogs in the morning or evening.

A Paddock to plate experience

Celebrating the historic farming heritage of the Redlands Coast, the Farmhouse Restaurant and Coffee Shop on Wellington Point Farm is a must for lovers of fine food and locally grown ingredients. Freshly made pastries and coffee are served daily, while the fully licenced Restaurant plates up quality food using produce sourced predominantly on-site and locally within Queensland. Wellington Point Farm is one of the very few remaining operational market garden farms in Redland City and keeps its Market Hall stocked with fresh produce and gourmet products – perfect picnic fare!

Go kayaking

Redlands Kayak Tours depart from several locations including Wellington Point. Tours explore the stunning blue Moreton Bay waters, paddling around the many islands that dot the southern half of the bay.

Walk to King Island

Reaching King Island is all about timing. At low tide, a 1km sandbar reveals itself as a pathway to this pristine conservation park with sandy pathways and mangrove trees. Keep an eye out that the bank doesn’t disappear for your return! Dogs are allowed on leash during the week only.
