No longer is a pint of beer simply a pint of beer, or a schooner simply a schooner. One must ask where the wheat came from, how and when the yeast was added, and where it was brewed.

Brisbane has jumped on the craft beer train with a few super-passionate people gutsy enough to open their own breweries.

Newstead Brewing Co, Newstead

Take a lofty steel warehouse, add a microbrewery, pub and restaurant and you’ve got Newstead Brewing Co. This boutique brewpub has 12 taps on offer, with eight brews direct from the tanks. Feeling peckish? The kitchen pumps out gastropub feasts fit for craft brews.

Dogtap, Murarrie

Feeling crafty? Award-winning Scottish Craft Beer brand Brewdog has crossed the seven seas to open its first Australian brewery and tap room right here in Brisbane. Dogtap is pouring the famed Brewdog crafts as well as a range of local beers including Range Brewing, Currumbin Valley Brewing, Balter and more. Grab a pint and order from a classic menu of burgers, hot dogs, salads and wings.  

Green Beacon Brewing, Newstead

A hop, step and jump from Newstead Brewing Co, Green Beacon also falls within an area fondly dubbed "the brewmuda triangle". Set in a rustic Teneriffe warehouse, the brewery creates a core range of six preservative-free beers, plus seasonal rotaters. Pair your craft brew with fresh Queensland seafood, or keep an eye on Green Beacon’s social media to see which food truck will be making a special appearance. 

Range Brewing, Newstead

This small batch brewery is producing a pretty amazing lineup of hoppy, dark and sour beers. With a fun and quirky design that describes there beer types, you can come back again and again to try the new evolving beer styles. Hungry? While visiting you partake in a classic, simple selection of sourdough pizzas that pair marvelously well with their liquid libations.

Head through the wrought-iron gate and down the laneway off bustling Boundary St in West End. This hideaway bar and brewery is an urban gem with its airy and green beer garden and intimate nooks and crannies. Head along for live music, grazing plates and of course, beer. Sample the brew house’s award-winning preservative-free beers (made using just barley, yeast, waters and hops), have a chat with head brewer Simeon Bonetti, or go for a tour. Brewed right on the premises, it doesn’t get much fresher than this!

Catchment Brewing Co, West End


Take a trip to West End to find the award winning beers of Catchment Brewing Co, with the four core range beers and four rotating seasonal brews on tap year round, all produced and canned on site. The brewery is housed in an original, two-storey Art Deco-style building with balconies overlooking both the brewery inside and Boundary street, It's the one stop shop for exceptional food and beer in West End, bring your dog and enjoy the best of Brisbane.

Soapbox Beer, Fortitude Valley

Fresh and tasty is the unofficial motto of this craft beer brewery. Soapbox Beer has created a community meeting place for those with a passion for beer and a 'thirst' for beer knowledge. A modern day success story, these beer enthusiast threw in the towel of the corporate world to chase their dream of a great tasting craft beer. With a pretty extensive menu including battered chicken lollipops and beer brined grilled wings, you are going to want to stay a while to try it all. 

Felons Brewing Co., The City

Situated on the river with an epic view of the Story Bridge this brewery ranks pretty high on our list. Named after four felons (escaped convicts) Phamlett, Parsons, Finnegan and Thompson their craft brews are far from criminal. Creating and experimenting with new blends of hops and malts, there is a strong focus on creating beer that is balanced and drinkable, suitable for Brisbane's climate. Take our word for it, it is very drinkable. Come and experience the beauty that is Felons, enjoy the view, relax and sample something from the fresh and tasty menu or pick up some fish and chips from the Boatyard - weekend planned.   

Helios Brewing Company, Yeerongpilly

Housing an award winning brew-master you will be sure to find some beverages here to please your palate. Currently the brewing infrastructure has been custom-designed to run on solar energy making its production process eco-friendly and sustainable so you can enjoy your tasty and delicious beer in good conscience.

Slipstream Brewing Co., Yeerongpilly

Music, food trucks and beer... We're in. Slipstream is a place that values good chat and good beer. Creating seasonal beers with a heavy focus on hops their brew-masters create signature flavours that have the power to transport you to a tropical paradise or hit you with a citursy bitterness. Check out there ever changing range, we are quite partial to the Languana with its mango and pineapple notes. 

Ballistic Beer Co., Salisbury 

Established in 2016 and now the largest brewery on the south side of Brisbane means Ballistic Beer Co. must have done something right, and by something we're talking about brewing good-quality beer. With a tap house of twelve beers, this is beer you should experience, savour and travel for.

How could we forget the state’s iconic beverage? The giant XXXX brewery in Milton offers tours that journey through the brand’s 135-year history, from the very beginning to becoming an iconic brew. To quench your thirst, the 90-minute tour ends with a tasting session. 

Aether Brewing, Milton

Directly across the road from Suncorp Stadium, Aether Brewing is a bar, brewery and restaurant housed inside an industrial space. The bar serves up a variety of craft beer brewed on site and has 12 beers on tap - six permanent beers, three seasonal and three guest beers. Stop in for a pre-game beverage or a post-game nightcap.

Semi-Pro Brewing Co., East Brisbane

Pouring quality craft beer of the medium and low alcohol variety, these guys are about approachable and seasonal beers that can be enjoyed in Brisbane's awesome climate. Refreshing and cool these bevies not only taste good but come with killer artwork that represents their flavour profile and style.

Brews Brothers, Woolloongabba

Brews Brothers is one big experiment in beer brewing – and you’re invited. If you’ve always wanted to make your own, join the brewers club. It’s free, the club brews on Thursday and they pay you in beer. What a win-win. If your definition of being "hands on" with beer means wrapping your hands around a cold one, head in for a taste test. Every Friday from 4pm the place offers cheaper samples and free snags. 

All Inn Brewing Co, Banyo

At All Inn, it’s all in or nothing. The brewers only make full-flavoured ales, free from additives, unfiltered, unpasteurised and finings free. At the Nudgee Brewery Bar expect to find live music on weekends, rotating food trucks and the beer of the month. The brewery is only open to the public Friday and Saturday noon-9pm, and Sunday 2-7pm.

The Charming Squire, South Bank

South Bank’s first brew bar, The Charming Squire honours the life of James Squire – the infamous, yet charismatic, rogue convict-turned-brewer who inspired the creation of award-winning and flavoursome beers. The massive space situated under the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre offers a full dining menu or large selection of bar food to keep you satisfied. They are also the only venue in Brisbane to offer the full James squire range.

Fortitude Brewing Company, North Tamborine

Fortitude Brewing Company pride themselves on the perfect session beer. It's the kind of beer you can sit on all day, where the last mouthful will have you reaching for another glass. The range of session beers are true craft beers created from the finest quality ingredients with no expense spared. Find them stocked at the Pig N Whistle on Eagle St, Riverbar and Kitchen, The Gresham and Statler and Waldorf.

Scenic Rim Brewery, Mount Alford

Housed in the 100-year-old former Mount Alford General Store, the Scenic Rim Brewery and Cafe is a small, family-owned brewery. Here the beers have been developed to quench more than thirst, because as brewer Mike puts it, we have "five senses and only one thirst". 

Four Hearts Brewing, Ipswich

Four Hearts Brewing runs The Pumpyard in Ipswich and serves house-made brews and tasty food to hungry locals. Not your average watering hole, the heritage-listed building constructed in 1910 is set on the site that was originally the first water source for Ipswich in the mid-1800s. At the bar, you will find eight to 10 taps, five supplied direct from the brewery tanks.

At Capalaba, the trek to Bacchus Brewing Co is worth it for the brews. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the chocolate beer, Weis Beer (inspired by the ice-cream with raspberry, toasted coconut and vanilla), or The Kraken (rum-infused American IPA). The brewery is open to the public for drinks, and often has different food trucks parked outside on weekends.
