Bakeries and patisseries

Le Bon Choix Edward St

Do as the French do and order a cafe au lait and macaron, sit outside and watch the world pass by at one of the Le Bon Choix cafes, Chouquette, Belle Epoque, Passion Tree and Monsieur Macaron's Les Folies de Paris. Perhaps a croissant, special cake or loaf of sourdough will tempt you too. For those more in the mood to grab-and-go, pop by Flour & Chocolate (who use 100 per cent organic flour) or Crust & Co (hello breakfast brioche!) to procure baguettes, croissants and more.

Casual dining

Go on a journey to provincial France at C’est Bon in Woolloongabba; you'll know which drink to pair with your food at South Bank's French Martini; and enjoy French-Australian fare at The Chelsea Bistro.

Wine bar Anise is better known for its by-the-glass selection of vino than food, but whose eat will enjoy a French-inspired menu of bar snacks. Nearby the French Food Shoppe is a casual wine bar and friterie, and over in Milton Fromage the Cow puts the focus on one ingredient.

Dining at Libertine

It doesn't get much better than French-Vietnamese fusion cuisine at Libertine. The restaurant encourages a shared style of dining which reflects the way in which food is served in Asian cultures. Meanwhile, Bourbon Street (named after New Orleans’ French quarter) oozes jazz vibes and creole-inspired recipes for a smooth dining experience. 

Fine dining


A little piece of Paris found its way to Brisbane's inner westside in 2004. Montrachet is only open weekdays and does a degustation menu on Friday nights. Best book a table. For a distinctly French menu, take a seat at Rhubarb Rhubarb. Try the confit duck or beef bourguignon, and finish with a perfect crème brulee. 

Nearby in Bardon, Lutèce Bistro & Wine Bar offers modern French with an Alsatian spirit, thanks to renowned Brisbane chef Romain Bapst’s rich Strasbourgeois heritage. The restaurant is also the only venue in Brisbane that serves the exquisite pressed duck – a rare French delicacy dating back to the 19th century.

e'cco Bistro

One of Brisbane City's most highly regarded restaurants, e'cco bistro features Philip Johnson's interpretation of bistro food – food that has flavour and visual appeal with distinctly French cooking techniques. The go-to destination for classic French cuisine in Brisbane’s south-west, Boucher serves sophisticated modern French from its intimate location. 

A Brisbane institution with more than 40 years under its belt, Baguette is reminiscent of stylish French restaurants in Paris and specialises in regional French bistro food.
