The complete guide to Eat Street

20 JANUARY 2023

Eat Street Northshore is a feast in every sense. The sights, smells, tastes and sounds come to life in this container food village every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. For first-time visitors it can be overwhelming – there are so many mouth-watering choices it can be hard to know where to start! Our handy guide will make sure you get to sample a true taste of Eat Street Northshore, whether it’s your first time or your 50th.

Arrive in style

The best way to reach Eat Street using public transport is via CityCat. Cruise along the iconic Brisbane River to Northshore Hamilton Ferry Terminal and from here, it is an easy and flat 250m walk. If you’re driving, set the GPS for Macarthur Ave and follow the signs to the free public car park at Dock D.

Prepare for entry

Entry to Eat Street is $5 per person or $15 for a family of four adults. Children under 13 and carers accompanying a person with a disability are admitted for free. Remember to pack your debit or credit card as Eat Street does not accept cash at either the entry gate or at any of its bars. Most food vendors accept card or cash and if you find yourself short of the folding stuff, there’s an ATM on-site.

Make a game plan

It’s best to arrive early, before you get too hungry, to give yourself a chance to check out all the tantalising stalls before making any rash food decisions. If you’re with a group, we highly recommend sharing dishes so you not only split the cost but get to sample a range of cuisines and flavours.

Start with a snack

Whet your appetite with something light, such as freshly shucked oysters from Shuck All Oysters on the TrawlerDeck or crispy, fried, twisted potatoes on a stick from Slinkys

Savour the flavours

Ready for your main courses? Take your tastebuds on a tour of Hungary with a deep-fried flatbread topped with your choice of ingredients from The Original Langos stall.

Continue your gastronomic journey with a stop in South America, sampling a plate of fresh paella scooped from the enormous pans at Little Lady Peruvian Cuisine.

Continent-hop again to Kotetsu and order its take on "Japanese Pizza". The thick pancake-like fritter is made from cabbage and flour and comes topped with your choice of ingredients including cheese, bacon and corn before being smothered in Japanese mayo and teriyaki sauce.

Sahara Eats serves up fragrant and spiced Turkish food while Souva Stop is your one-stop-shop for Greek yiros, chicken and lamb skewers and haloumi fries.

Stick to the classics

Keep it simple with a plate of battered, crumbed, grilled or fresh seafood, served with one of Brisbane’s best river views. Calamari Me on the TrawlerDeck dishes up tender morsels or go big with grilled seafood from The Little Octopus.

Poulet & Porc pairs classic tastes with gourmet European-inspired flavours such as its crispy pork belly burger with crackling, apple slaw, pickles and chipotle aioli on brioche. Craving a classic American cheeseburger instead? Swing by T & L’s Kitchen for two-handed burgers, fries, shakes and creamy mac ‘n’ cheese.

Sweeten up your life

If there’s one piece of advice all Eat Street visitors must heed it’s this: always save room for dessert.

The neon-hued KombiAlley is dessert central with Willy Wonka-esque concoctions vying for attention. The Doughnut Bar’s giant doughnut fries are made for sharing. Choose from a bucket or platter of mini doughnut sticks smothered in your choice of sauce, fudge, crushed cookies, cream and torched marshmallows. Chocolate Komberry Co whips up ice cream cronuts – 64 layers of Danish pastry, shaped into a cone and filled with your favourite ice cream. The Golden Gaytime is a personal favourite.

Away from KombiAlley, head to Locomades for traditional Greek honey puffs topped with ice cream and smothered in sweet toppings. Dutch de Lites is the dessert destination for traditional Dutch Poffertjes and waffles topped with fresh fruit, sweet syrup and whipped cream. Still have room for more? Dessert Depot beckons with its colourful display case filled with a rainbow of macarons and sweet treats.

Treat your eyes and ears

After you've assembled your evening’s smorgasbord, find a spot under the twinkling fairy lights and listen to live entertainment while you demolish and digest dinner. Eat Street’s

MainDeck Stage features top local and touring bands as well as headline shows every weekend. Tucked around the corner, the cosy LaneWay Cabaret programs jazz bands and easy-listening entertainment. The OpenSky area hosts DJs and high-energy entertainment while buskers and solo performers play throughout Eat Street.

Bon Appetit!
