7 spots to see a koala in Brisbane
Whether they are in the wild or being pampered in tourist parks, Brisbane koalas are international favourites. Obama to Putin, Lopez to Sheeran, Federer to Williams – nobody can resist a cuddle with our koalas.

Below is a list of seven spots to see or snuggle with Australia’s favourite cuddly marsupial.
In the wild
Located 15km south-east of Brisbane, these bushlands are a network of natural areas set aside to protect our furry friends. Grab your binoculars, pull on your walking shoes and visit council’s website for a list of these bushland pockets.
A ferry ride east of Brisbane will take you to North Stradbroke Island, one of the world’s largest sand islands. The island offers a huge range of nature walks and great opportunities to spot koalas in their natural habitat. Book a Straddie Kingfisher Tour and let the experts guide you to their favourite spots.
The Hollow Log Country Retreat
Located in the Somerset region, this country escape will put you in touch with nature. The retreat has four wild koalas that reside in the trees just 100m from the property.
Up close

Officially recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the world's first and largest koala sanctuary, with more than 130 koalas. Hand-feed their kangaroos and wild lorikeets, be entertained by a platypus or, best of all, get cuddly with a beautiful koala.
Daisy Hill Koala Centre
For these cute marsupials, Daisy Hill is one of the last intact natural habitats between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Head to the centre for information for an up-close look, or bike and walk through the trails to spot some in the lofty gum trees.
Indigiscapes
Australia’s first environmental centre for indigenous plants, the 14.5 hectare site offers 14 demonstration gardens, tea garden and over a kilometre of walking tracks perfect for spotting our furry grey friends. Ask the friendly staff to point you in the direction of their favourite hiding spots.
Australia Zoo
Head north of Brisbane to Australia Zoo. Established by the famous Irwin family, expect to see everything from crocodiles to cockatoos. You can get up close and personal, or even visit the working wildlife hospital to see rehabilitation of sick or injured koalas.
