Leading travel authority Lonely Planet has ranked the 500 best places to see in the world – with the Great Barrier Reef coming in at No.2.

The definitive bucket list (known as the Lonely Planet Ultimate Travelist 2015) is good news for Brisbane. The capital city is home to the biggest international airport in Queensland, with easy access to the Great Barrier Reef.

For those wanting to see part of the 2300km coral reef that is one of the seven natural wonders of the world, there are two tours that depart directly from Brisbane.

Australian Sunset Safaris offers good-value three-day trips to Lady Musgrave Island, and Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort offers a day-trip package from Brisbane that includes a scenic flight.
