Construction projects at Roma Street Parkland

Roma Street Parkland is undergoing significant transformation, with exciting construction projects currently underway in the precinct.

This page will provide information about the upcoming impacts of construction to Roma Street Parkland visitors.

Roma Street Parkland

Cross River Rail

The $5.4 billion Cross River Rail is a new 10.2 kilometre rail line from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, which includes 5.9 kilometres of tunnel under the Brisbane River and CBD.

Upcoming impacts to Roma Street Parkland:

- Demolition of the Brisbane Transit Centre and Hotel Jen buildings has commenced and will be completed late 2020. There will be an increase in construction workers and vehicles in the area and a potential of increased levels of localised noise and vibration. Traffic control will be in place for any temporary changed traffic conditions, including lane closures, footpath diversions and reduced speed limit. Works will generally occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday, weather and construction conditions permitting.

- The Roma Street busway station will be closed from Monday 18 May 2020 for approximately 15 weeks, during this time buses will use on-road stops located on Roma Street. Some travel delays may be experienced. The Roma Street train station will remain and trains will continue to operate. For more information, please visit the Cross River Rail website.

Roma Street Parkland escalator works

Roma Street Parkland escalators are scheduled for routine maintenance between Monday 15 – Friday 19 June.

Upcoming impacts to Roma Street Parkland:

Pedestrian access to Parkland Boulevard via the escalators will be impacted. Personnel traffic be re-directed to use the lift during off-peak times. During peak periods, from 7:30am to 9:00am and 2:30pm to 4:00pm, the centre stairwell between both escalators will be open for use, ensuring limited disruption to patron movement.
