School Holiday Fun at Roma Street Parkland
The Easter long weekend and school break is the perfect time to go exploring with the family. Forget the highway traffic jams and non-stop sporting coverage on the telly – hop on a train to Roma Street Parkland for an inner-city adventure that will entertain the whole family.
Picnic in the park
With acres of lush green grass, shady barbecues and tables, and park benches dotted in convenient locations, Roma Street Parkland is the ultimate picnic location. Pack up the kids, a soccer ball or Frisbee, some sandwiches and all their remaining chocolate and let them run off the weekend sugar high in one go! We promise they’ll sleep well after a day of fresh air, sunshine and loads of fun.
Sprouts in the Park kids' activities
Imagination all worn out? Drop in for some structured play at the Sprouts in the Park school holiday activities. Running from Wednesdays to Sundays in both weeks of the holidays, kids (toddler to tweens) can engage in drama classes, soccer clinics, yoga for kids, gardening workshops, craft and musical play. No bookings are required, and best of all, it’s completely free! Check out the full timetable of activities here and choose a session (or two!) to attend.
If you are a family of green thumbs, take advantage of the free guided walks offered daily by our knowledgeable volunteers. Bookings can be made over the phone for a specific date and time, but generally the walks are offered at 11am and 1pm every day, leaving from The Hub. Talk with your guide about your particular interests – native plants, bush tucker, succulents, public art are just a few ideas – or let them take you on a tour of their favourite parts of the Parkland. We guarantee you’ll learn lots and find some hidden away part of the Parkland you never even knew existed.
Be among the first kids to christen Roma Street Parkland’s new Children’s Playground! Designed for school-aged scamps, the new equipment is both challenging and exhilarating with an embankment slide, climbing structures, nets, bridges and chiming poles. Just a little way down the path you’ll find the Children’s Garden, which has equipment suitable for younger visitors – from a gentle spinner, log tunnels, balance beams and a tree house. Giggle at the comical photo opportunities with our giant fruit and veg, and look out for some chicks and the worm farm too!
All aboard the Parkland Explorer
If you haven’t taken a spin on the Parkland Explorer trackless train, you haven’t lived! For a gold coin donation, our volunteers will transport you around the Parkland for a whistlestop tour of the major attractions. Check the Roma Street Parkland Facebook page for up to date timetables over the Easter break.
