12 great breakfast spots at South Bank
They say it’s the most important meal of the day – we say it’s also the most delicious. Whether you’re after something more traditional (we will never tire of smashed avo!) or something with a bit of a twist, South Bank has plenty of great breakfast options.

Breakfast is available daily at Barbossa, South Bank’s very own Caribbean-inspired eatery. Barbossa has a decidedly tropical feel, so you can relax and get into a holiday-groove while you eat your eggs and toast.
If only breakfast with a view can sate your appetite, head to Southbeach Social. It overlooks the sparkling Streets Beach and offers all of the classics – avo smash, eggs benedict, bacon and eggs and more. Vegetarians are also well catered for here, as are children.

Want to make your breakfast the all-day variety? Denim’s breakfast menu is available until 3pm, so you can enjoy a big breaky later in the day, or perhaps some green eggs – pesto scrambled eggs, basil and blistered tomatoes on toasted rye. Denim’s well-known jaffles are also available with classic filings like Vegemite and gooey cheese.
They’re famous for their beer, but The Charming Squire also keeps tummies happy in the breakfast department. Their Brewer’s Pantry serves breakfast seven days a week in their cool, industrial surrounds.

Start your day the healthy way at Coco Bliss on Grey Street. Their menu is bursting with refined sugar-free menu options including acai bowls, protein shakes and fruity smoothies. There’s also plenty for vegans to enjoy – the bowls are vegan friendly, as are their toast toppers and raw treats.
Tucked under the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, this little gem has outdoor seating with pretty views of the Wheel of Brisbane. Watch the world go by and enjoy a mix of sweet and savoury items, all in air-conditioned comfort.

A mecca for cyclists, Espresso Garage is a bustling café situated in a breezeway on Little Stanley Street. They specialize in the cheap and cheerful – whether you’re after bagels, toasts, smoothies or just a really good coffee.
For a beautiful breakfast loaded with nutrients and fibre, pick up a mouth-watering smoothie bowl from Kiss the Berry. There’s also smoothies, raw treats, superfood lattes and a frequently changing seasonal menu to keep you entertained.

Nonna’s is the ideal breakfast destination if you’re short on time, cash or both. All items are cheap and ready-to-go. There’s freshly-made bagels and piadinas (an Italian-style of flatbread) plus pastries, frittatas and toasts.
For a gorgeously dark and moody breakfast experience, make haste to Next Door Kitchen and Bar. Within, you’ll find the ultimate collection of breakfast staples – shakshuka eggs, various toppings on sourdough, pancakes, potato hash and more.
Put a Mexican spin on your morning at Mucho Mexicano on Little Stanley Street. They serve breakfast exclusively on Sundays in their cheery, colourful fashion. Hot tip – the fritters are worth a try!
If you have a sweet tooth (even in the AM) Cowch is your breakfast destination! Open daily from 7am, you can grab enough sweet treats to sink a ship – think Nutella French toast, smoothie bowls, parfaits and more. Venturing out with a savoury tooth? There’s also toasts, breakfast pizzas, smashes and more to keep them happy.
