Best of the brunch

Hotcakes

Brunch: a magical word that means ‘I get to sleep in’ with a guarantee of bacon on the side. What can we say? When making the most of the weekend leads to far less exhaustion (and far more hollandaise sauce), we’re officially on board.

Gardening and jigsaw puzzles? Pass. As far as family bonding time goes, we recommend settling for the perfect poached eggs and a freakshake bigger than the kids’ heads. Trust us – get ready to love the AM a whole brunch more with these South Bank family brunch spots.

The Charming Squire

The weekend’s turning on some serious charm! Skip the snooze button and saunter over to The Brewer's Pantry at The Charming Squire before 11 for plates of creamy hollandaise and poached eggs over a freshly-baked croissant (um, why hadn’t we thought of this?), and the Eton Mess doughnut waffle with basil and pepper infused strawberries, strawberry cream and meringue, yum!

Southbeach Social

You can’t beat breakfast by the beach! Enjoy a relaxed, casual atmosphere with a picturesque view of Streets Beach and the city. Southbeach Social has a cracking menu covering everything from smashed avo and big breakfasts to special menu items for the little ones.

Next Door Kitchen & Bar

Average mornings start by running next door to borrow their milk. Spectacular mornings start at Next Door Kitchen & Bar – and this early trading only runs on weekends, so you’ll want to take advantage. The discovery of their kicking brunch menu (plus cocktails)? Awesome. The knowledge that you have to wait another week for plates of pulled lamb and smoky huevos rancheros? Not so great.

Denim Co.

Breakfast ‘til 3pm? Jean-ius! (Ahh, forget it – we tried our hand at a denim pun.) Bunker down with your cosy blanket as late as you please – but if you’re anything like us, you’ll be bounding out of bed for these all-day offerings. Grab family-friendly weekend treats like Denim Co’s gourmet jaffles with double-smoked bacon, egg and gooey cheese, or crisp golden waffles with warm Nutella, vanilla ice-cream, and caramel popcorn.

Bacchus

Four words that never fail to have us rising early without a complaint? All. You. Can. Eat. Bacchus spreads a full-service buffet of morning treats to South Bank brunchers, and there’s only one thing we can say to its assortments of French pastries, eggs benedict, made-to-order pancakes and crispy streaky bacon: Challenge accepted.

Ole Spanish Restaurant

Hate waking up? Stop saying ‘oh no’ and start crying ‘Ole!’ Our favourite South Bank Spanish kitchen makes a mean Sunday brunch with a Mexican twist. Settle into a chair for serves of baked eggs with roast peppers, morcilla, braised beans, and crusty dipping bread. Muy bueno!

You know what they say: make mimosa your weekends!
