Fun and educational family outings (yes, really!) - Visit Brisbane

Fun and educational family outings (yes, really!)

Let’s face it, they can already list more dinosaurs than us and recite their favourite book without turning a page. The minds of our kids can soak up incredible amounts of information – and we’ve got the next few lessons covered! Bring the little ones down to South Bank for learning experiences at these hands-on spots.

Queensland Museum
Good news: those ‘I’m bored’ complaints are history! Take the kids on a walk through the ages in a single trip to the Queensland Museum. With different exhibitions held throughout the year (think dinosaurs, mummies, and undersea creatures), and year-round displays for those budding curators, make the museum a standing date with the family – you’ll want plenty of time to explore.

Grab your lab coats and goggles – it’s time to put those science classes to the test. This hands-on extension of the Queensland Museum is your chance (and by you, we mean the kids – wink, wink) to perform experiments and test the rules of science with a huge range of interactive games, displays, and illusions! Hey, you don’t even need an excuse to spend a day out in South Bank; it’s all in the name of science.

Epicurious Garden
There’s no doubt about it: curious minds belong in the Epicurious Garden! Set in the South Bank Parklands, the garden houses a wide array of fruits, veggies and herbs for those tiny chefs in training to explore. Forget vegging on the couch – there’s nothing ‘garden variety’ about this fun day out!

LEGO Education Centre
Who knew we could give kids building blocks for the future with actual building blocks? Spend some time getting creative at the LEGO Education Learning Centre opposite the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The kids will love their newly appointed roles as architects, construction workers, and – let’s face it – demolition crew.

Trips to the iconic Gallery of Modern Art tends to inspire the artist in all of us – so give the little ones a paintbrush at QAGOMA’s Children’s Art Centre! Entry to the centre is free, with plenty of special activities and displays often available for your little ones to join. Grab a signed copy before they become famous!

The Wheel of Brisbane
Help those future architects (or ‘I spy’ fans) set the wheels in motion with a quick tour of the Brisbane skyline. Trips on The Wheel of Brisbane include an audio tour of Brisbane landmarks – perfect for teaching the tykes about spots they might like to visit next! Don’t worry – we don’t assign homework.
