Must-do date ideas at South Bank - Visit Brisbane

Must-do date ideas at South Bank

Whether you’re coupled up or navigating the singles scene, planning a date can be hard work. Take the stress out of it with these simple (yet incredibly fun!) date ideas.

River Quay

Picnic with a view

Did you know that South Bank’s stunning River Quay is licensed between 10am and 8pm daily? Head along with a picnic blanket, a cheese platter and a bottle of wine for a casual yet oh-so-chic date. Score bonus points if you head along on a Sunday when Sunday Social on the Green is on, featuring local artists.

Dine progressively

Add a quirky twist to your dinner date and make it a progressive experience through a few different eateries. We suggest you start with drinks at The Sangria Bar; then venture to Mister Paganini, Popolo or San Kai for a main; followed by dessert at Cowch or Max Brenner. Explore your dining options with our eat and drink page.

Clem Jones Promenade

Walk, talk and treat

There are plenty of scenic walks at South Bank – our pick is the riverfront Clem Jones Promenade. Add in some good conversation, a spot of people-watching and an ice-cream from Cold Rock, Gelare and New Zealand Natural, and you have a winner of a date.

South Bank Cineplex

Catch a flick

It’s an oldie but a goodie – cuddle up during a movie at the South Bank Cineplex. Tickets are among the cheapest in town, and it’s also the perfect excuse to indulge in a bucket of hot, buttery popcorn and a choc-top.

The Collective Markets

Wander the markets

South Bank is home to two popular markets – The Collective Markets and Young Designer Markets. Head along with your date to explore cool clothes, beautiful jewellery, enchanting trinkets and more. There’s also a couple of seasonal markets that pop-up during the year to check out including Regional Flavours in July and the Christmas Markets in December.

Queensland Art Gallery

Flex your creative muscles

For a more refined date, head along to the Cultural Precinct and take in an exhibition at QAGOMA or the Queensland Museum. Not only will it give you something interesting to talk about, but it’s also seriously enjoyable.

Coffee date

Grab a coffee

If it’s a first date you’re planning, a coffee is the perfect solution. It’s casual, cheap and it can be quick if you need it to be (not to mention the added caffeine boost you get from downing the good stuff!) Our venue picks include Denim Co, Pour Boy and The Brewer's Pantry at the Charming Squire. For more options head to our cafés page.

Enjoy cocktail hour

We are firm believers that you can’t go wrong with a good old-fashioned drink and some nibbles – just some of the South Bank bars we recommend include Soleil Pool Bar, Olé and Southbank Beer Garden.
