Visit South Bank's best picnic spot
One of the best things about living in Brisbane is ability to have a picnic all year round, no matter what the season. And, once you add in some of the stunning, scenic picnic locations we have in our midst, you easily have the ultimate (and affordable) day out. Here’s the low down one of our favourite locations at South Bank, Picnic Island.
Forget about sifting through your pockets, desperately seeking loose change! Picnic Island’s barbeques are completely free to use. They are not available to book though so make sure you get there early to secure your spot.
What’s a barbeque without a couple of cool drinks to wash the snags and sauce down? Picnic Island is licenced between 10am and 8pm daily (excluding Australia Day, New Year's Eve and Riverfire when no alcohol is permitted). Please note that to consume alcohol at South Bank, you must be 18+ and you must have food to accompany your drinks.
Picnic Island has a state-of-the-art playground that’s suitable for children of all ages. And if that's not enough to keep the kids entertained, make sure you do some wildlife spotting – eastern water dragons are often seen in the area and there's a quaint pond nearby filled with lots of colourful native fish.
