Conditions of Entry

South Bank

To ensure that all visitors have an enjoyable visit to the parkland, the following parkland conditions of entry apply.

  • Conduct causing public nuisance is not permitted – this includes being drunk, disorderly or creating a disturbance;
  • Children are to be supervised at all times. All visitors must comply with signage, security and parkland management;
  • Cyclists, rollerbladers and skateboarders must give way to pedestrians and must observe the limit speed of 15km/h on all paths; and
  • Pets to be on a leash at all times. No pets are permitted in pool areas.
  • The Parklands are open 5am to midnight each day. Out of hours access is restricted to business operators and approved contractors.

The following activities are not permitted:

  • littering and damaging property;
  • camping or overnight sleeping;
  • consumption of alcohol outside of designated areas*;
  • smoking within 10m of pool areas, playgrounds or dining areas**;
  • skateboarding;
  • cycling, rollerblading, and the use of segways in the Arbour;
  • fishing or swimming in the river or water features;
  • spruiking, hawking, soliciting and distribution of leaflets;
  • selling or advertising products (without authorisation) including on bicycles;
  • religious or political activities;
  • portable structures including dome shades, tents, marquees and beach umbrellas;
  • pegging/staking into lawns;
  • attaching items to parkland infrastructure or trees;
  • open flames, candles, portable cooking devices or open fires;
  • disposal of ice or hot water on lawns or garden beds;
  • pets not on a leash;
  • feeding of wildlife; and
  • organised sporting activities or ball games. No studded footwear.

Noise limits:

  • No noise before 7am or after 7pm, Monday to Thursday and after 10pm Friday to Sundays.
  • Noise levels at a minimum (under 55dB{A}) from 7am-7pm Monday to Thursday and 7am-10pm Friday to Sundays.

Pool areas:

  • No dogs in the pool areas, including the stream and beach - this includes guide dogs and service dogs;
  • No bomb diving, diving or jumping into the pools;
  • No eating or drinking in the pools;
  • No smoking in pools or pool areas;
  • No large beach umbrellas or shade structures;
  • Appropriate swimwear must be worn at all times when swimming;
  • Infants/toddlers must wear waterproof nappies;
  • Comply with the directions of the lifeguards when asked to do so;
  • No throwing sand or rocks;
  • No metal detectors on beaches or grassed areas;

Filming, photography and drones:

  • The use of drones in the parklands is strictly prohibited except with express written consent from South Bank Parklands management. For information on how to gain approval, visit our Filming and Photography page.


  • Animals must be on-leash and under effective control at all times;
  • You must clean up after your animal. Bags are provided at entry points around the parklands.
  • Exercise due consideration for others. i.e. keep dogs at safe distance from other patrons and animals.
  • Dogs are not permitted in the pool or pool/beach areas.

Authorisation is required for the following activities:

  • conducting surveys;
  • selling or promoting goods;
  • filming or professional photography;
  • the use of drones;
  • busking;
  • events and activations, including regular activities by groups or individuals; and
  • peaceful assembly or procession.

* designated area is defined as the Riverside Green, Picnic Island Green and River Quay Green as per Section 173 (C) of the Liquor Act 1992
