City Sounds | Live music, free weekly
Brisbane is a music city. For the last two decades City Sounds been at the forefront of the local music scene, introducing Brisbane to up-and-coming local and touring musicians through City Sounds, Australia’s largest and longest running free live music program.
Every single week we add to the city beat by turning ordinary urban spaces into music venues for artists to share their voices with the public. It’s like a boutique music festival that never ends – there’s always someone new to discover. Perhaps best of all, it’s free.
Over the past 60 years, Brisbane has produced some of the most influential musicians in Australia – from ‘60s pop music icons The Bee Gees and legendary ‘70s punks The Saints,‘80s indie rockers The Go-Betweens and ‘90s rock powerhouse Powderfinger.
Since 2000, City Sounds has filled the CBD’s streets and parks with a fresh line-up of local and touring bands and artists each week. We’ve been fortunate to invite Brisbane pop-rockers Ball Park Music, Sheppard and Last Dinosaurs, plus local folk-pop songstresses Kate Miller-Heidke and Dami Im (both Eurovision stars) to make music on our stages in the city centre.
Every year we’re proud to give hundreds of artists more opportunities to perform and grow, and over two decades we’ve seen many of our acts go from hometown heroes to national and international stars.
Every week expect to hear anything from jazz and funk to electro and indie ringing out from Queen Street Mall, Post Office Square, Reddacliff Place and other locations in the CBD.
Whether you seek out the stage or stumble upon a gig while shopping Queen Street Mall or exploring the CBD we hope you find a moment of human connection, emotion and joy in our city.
Music makes you feel: songs can get you dancing on your feet or tap into emotion straight from the heart. Get to the City to hear and feel the sounds of Brisbane today.
