Hailey Calvert's best of Brisbane

Hailey Calvert

From top spots to watch the sunset, sip a hot chocolate or enjoy some shopping, songstress Hailey Calvert shares some of her favourite things about living in Brisbane.

Walking tracks of Mt Coot-tha

Mt Coot-tha walking track

There are so many lovely walking paths on and around Mt Coot-tha that, even though I've lived right by it for 10 years, I'm still finding new ones. There are tracks for every level of fitness, and the scenery makes it hard to believe you are so close to the city. It’s a serine (yet energetic!) weekend activity.

Mt Coot-tha Lookout

Mt Coot-tha Lookout

At the end of a walk up Mt Coot-tha is the lookout. It’s quite a well-known tourist attraction but still one of my favourite places in Brisbane. The view is amazing and I have spent a few New Years Eves up here watching all of Brisbane’s firework displays go off at once. The best way to enjoy it is with a picnic on a blanket down on the grassed patch. Lovely in the sun during winter.

Latrobe Terrace, Paddington

Latrobe Terrace

Latrobe Terrace in the beautiful old suburb of Paddington is my favourite place to shop and lunch. Lure on Latrobe does wonderful food and hot chocolate (I don’t drink coffee, but I’ve heard they are good at that too), there are many cute little shops and boutiques and the op-shopping could keep you treasure hunting for hours.

Vintage and Designers Markets, West End (First Saturday of the month)

Vintage & Designer Markets

I find the hunt for something you love in racks and boxes of pre-loved clothing a lot more fun than giant shopping centres, so when I found the Vintage and Designer Markets at Rumpus Room (now part of West End Markets at Davies Park), I was a happy girl. It’s a bit like going through a trendy friend’s closet, or you can clean out your wardrobe and set up your own stall! You can also come across new wares by local designers.
