Live music in The City

Brisbane has a vibrant and constantly evolving live music scene. We're home to a variety of talented local bands and a destination on many touring artists’ schedules. Whether you're in to Brooklyn-style funk, smooth jazz or rockabilly, you'll find the best live music venues in Brisbane City. Here's your guide to venues big and small, sweaty and intimate, DIY and otherwise.

Brooklyn Standard

Brooklyn Standard

Brooklyn Standard brings a little bit of Brooklyn cool to Brisbane. Located underground on Eagle Lane, the speakeasy venue hosts live music six nights a week, specialising in jazz, funk and blues – all accompanied by a well-stocked bar of whiskeys and classic cocktails. Check out their Facebook page to keep up to date with the weekly line-up.

Doo-Bop Jazz Bar

Jazz in Brisbane City

This two-level live music venue in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD serves cocktails, tapas, and a whole lot of soul. The Doo-Bop Jazz Bar has live jazz every night of the week, with ticketed shows and dinner from 7.30pm to 10pm. Head upstairs to the Doo-Bop Brasserie and Piano Bar and dine against the backdrop of a classic grand piano and art deco vibe. For casual dining and contemporary jazz, swing, soul and funk, journey downstairs to the basement.

If you’re looking for something that’s free, local and guaranteed to be a good Saturday night out, then head to Trainspotters at the Grand Central Hotel – it’s Brisbane’s only free indie music night. With cheap drinks, sausage rolls aplenty and a line-up of at least three acts, these nights are the best (and cheapest) way to experience the interesting and diverse music that Brisbane offers.

The Kitty

The Kitty DJ

Housed in Treasury Casino, The Kitty is a lush boutique bar with creative cocktails, champagne, premium spirits and tunes to feed the soul. Hear Brisbane's coolest sounds from resident DJs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening until late, and live performances every Sunday from 4pm. Impromptu performances from the hottest artists are also a regular feature at The Kitty.

Buffalo Bar

Buffalo Bar

Blazing with Rockabilly soul, Buffalo Bar offers authentic American food, drinks and culture. On Frat Night Wednesdays enjoy live music paired with beer pong tournaments, wing-eating challenges and student discounts. Check out their website to keep in touch with events.

Mr & Mrs G

Live music at Mr & Mrs G

Our pick for a relaxed Sunday session, Mr & Mrs G Riverbar at Eagle Street Pier is a stylish wine and cocktail bar with sweeping views of the Brisbane River. Every Sunday from 3pm the bar comes alive with the sound of music, hosting Brisbane’s favourite jazz musicians. Watch the sun go down in the river city in fine style.
