Brooklyn Standard

Brooklyn Standard

Brooklyn Standard brings a little bit of Brooklyn cool to Brisbane. Located underground on Eagle Lane, the speakeasy venue hosts live music six nights a week, specialising in jazz, funk and blues – all accompanied by a well-stocked bar of whiskeys and classic cocktails. Check out its Facebook page to keep up to date with the weekly line-up.

Doo-Bop Jazz Bar

Jazz in Brisbane City

This two-level live music venue in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD serves cocktails, tapas, and a whole lot of soul. Here you can boogie down to live jazz until the wee hours five nights a week. Between the bars and levels Doo-Bop host more live music every week than another other venue in Queensland! Expect to find free and ticketed shows and dinner from 7.30pm to 10pm, and free late-night jam sessions until super late. Head upstairs to the Doo-Bop Brasserie and Piano Bar and dine against the backdrop of a classic grand piano and art deco vibe. For casual dining and contemporary jazz, swing, soul, blues and funk, journey downstairs to the basement bar.

The Flamin’ Galah

Like the name might hint at, this place is a whole ball of fun with live and local bands seven nights a week. Add some cheerful bar food and a fully stocked bar for one of Brisbane’s best nights out. Even mid week this place rocks out, perhaps thanks to its location near a bunch of Brisbane’s top hostels.

Rocking Horse Records

Rocking Horse Records

Queensland’s oldest, largest and most-loved independent record store, Rocking Horse has been open since 1975 and you’ll find it on Albert St. The store took out a 2014 ARIA award for Outstanding Independent Retailer, and it regularly hosts all-ages gigs in the downstairs "rock dungeon". Keep an eye out.

Riverstage – The City Botanic Gardens

If festivals and large national and international acts are your thing, you’ll find these happening every month at Riverstage. This incredible and green outdoor entertainment arena is located in the heart of Brisbane in the City Botanic Gardens. Find out what’s happening on the Brisbane City Council website or Ticketmaster.

Brisbane City Hall

City Hall in Brisbane City

Take in a free lunchtime concert in Brisbane’s iconic City Hall. Clem Jones City Hall Concerts take place on Tuesdays from midday-1pm – enjoy a surprising and diverse program of world, pop, classical and contemporary music all taking place in City Hall’s beautiful auditorium. City Sounds

The City Sounds

Australia’s largest and longest-running free live music program, every single week expect to hear anything from jazz and funk to electro and indie ringing out from Queen Street Mall, Post Office Square, Reddacliff Place and other locations in the CBD. Our pick for a relaxed Sunday session by the river, Mr & Mrs G Riverbar at Eagle Street Pier is a stylish wine and cocktail bar with sweeping views over the water. Every Sunday from 3pm the bar comes alive with the sound of music, hosting Brisbane’s favourite jazz musicians. Watch the sun go down in the river city in fine style.

Set by the water with cute yellow-and-white-striped umbrellas, Riverbar is sort of place where time doesn’t matter as you kick bar with a cocktail jug and best mates. The after-work favourite programs acoustic acts and then DJs from Fridays through to Sunday.

Embassy

This craft beer bar keeps it live and local with open mic sessions every single Thursday night and ‘Friday Night Blues’ from 6pm. Bring your best on Thursday and jump up on stage, or kick on after work on Fridays with live jazz, blues, funk and soul music.
