Where to find fresh food and produce in The City

Brisbane City boasts an abundance of fresh food and seasonal produce from specialty greengrocers, delis, bakeries and famers markets. Whether you’re putting together a picnic hamper to enjoy in The City’s parks, or sourcing fresh ingredients for dinner, there’s a veritable smorgasbord on offer. Here’s our favourite providores in The City:

Farmers Markets

City workers and visitors hang out for Wednesdays when the Brisbane City Markets take over Reddacliff Place. Head to the top of Queen Street Mall from 8am to 4pm to take your pick of 85 stalls with farm-fresh produce, baked bread, trawler-caught seafood, gourmet provisions and delicious meals to go.

On Sundays, visit City Botanic Gardens for the Riverside Market at the Gardens. Open 8am to 3pm, shop the fresh fruit and veg as well as international stalls with tempting cuisines, hot barista-made coffee and iced tea drinks.

Bakeries

Is there anything like the smell of freshly baked bread? Whether you’re after crusty loaves, delicate croissants or artisan sourdough, you can source a bounty of baked goods in The City. Lena’s Bakehouse in Post Office Square has a great range of bread rolls, quiches and baked goods for lunchtime, while Petite Treats patisserie on Wickham Terrace is worth seeking out for their sweet mini cakes and slices.

Saunter into Chouquette on Edward Street for buttery, flaky croissants and custardy eclairs, or visit Le Bon Choix (Queen Street and Edward Street) for petite cakes and an assortment of French bread. For Asian-style baked goods, savoury buns and cakes, head to Breadtop, Juno Bakery and Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart in The Myer Centre.

Greengrocers

From Japanese-Korean grocers to express supermarkets, Brisbane City has plenty of one-stop shops for all your fresh food needs. Grab any last-minute ingredients from central supermarkets such as Woolworths Metro (MacArthur Chambers, Ann Street and Tank Street) or Coles Express (The Myer Centre and QueensPlaza).

For specialty Asian veggies, fresh noodles, locally sourced provisions and baked goods, visit Hanaro Mart in The Myer Centre, Ofreshmart on Elizabeth Street and Metro Mart on Adelaide Street.
