Explore Brisbane City's new Asian street food laneway: FudoDori

Matcha soft-serve, Asian hot dogs, Japanese barbecue, tea-based cocktails and kawaii desserts fill Elizabeth Street’s newest Asian food laneway. This enticing alleyway goes by the name FudoDori, which translates to "food street” in Japanese. Connecting Elizabeth and Charlotte streets in the epicentre of Brisbane’s Korean and Asian restaurants, tea shops and dessert cafes, this new iteration of Elizabeth Street Arcade is an instant destination dining hotspot. 

Fudo Dori

From day to night, work your way through the 10 street food eateries from the cafes and daytime venues at the Elizabeth Street end, through to the late-night ramen and Thai cocktails at the Charlotte Street end. The people behind the lane want it to be a social food journey as you hop from dinner to drinks to dessert along the lane. Here’s everything your taste buds have to look forward to!

Koto Sanpo – all things matcha 

Matcha-based teas, parfaits, latte bowls and desserts star at this eatery inspired by the tearooms and cafes of Kyoto. Drop in for coffee and sweet desserts, frappes, floats and match treats at this flagship eatery on Elizabeth Street. If you have a greater hunger there’s bento boxes, sandos, udon, chicken nanban sets, pork kastus and more. For the ultimate treat, book in for a Japanese high tea.

Lucha Kitchen + Bar – bubble tea and Chinese dishes

From the makers of Noodle Time, LUCHA also puts the focus on tea but this time bringing the latest trends from China. The name means ‘green tea’ in Mandarin but here you’ll find more than that with bubble teas and tea-infused cocktails coming in every colour of the rainbow. Get one takeaway or sit down. Food wise the kitchen is cooking up modern Chinese with a tea influence - think chicken with tea-leaf-infused sauces and fried king prawns with black tea. There is, of course favourites like peking duck and westernised dishes as well.

Yakiniku Hachi – Japanese barbecue

Love the taste of food cooked over wood charcoal? Yakiniku Hachi is upping the game for Japanese barbecue in Brisbane. At your table receive the highest quality meats for you to cook over the flames of a small charcoal barbecue. The selection is huge - choose from the likes of premium wagyu beef rib and duck breast or enjoy Japanese delicacies like beef heart and miso marinated cuts. There’s also seafood such as scallops and prawns, plus mushrooms and other vegetables that work on the grill. From the heart of Harajuku, Tokyo, to the streets of Brisbane – the Japanese crepe is here. The name means “sweet cute” and this dessert depot is here to fulfil your fairy floss coloured dreams. Don’t overstuff yourself with a barbecue feast because you’ll want to save room for a decadent, sweet crepe, parfait or kakigoori (Japanese shaved ice dessert). The pastel pink crepe shop has imported the most popular flavours from Japan, along with those cute plastic display foods. Keep it sweet with choco banana, blueberries and cream or azuki (red mung bean), or try one of the savoury options like the tuna and Japanese curry crepe. Each month there is a super special premium crepe, like the hand torched creme brulee crepe.

Love Roll Sushi + Poke – sushi tacos

CBD favourite Love Roll (sometimes fondly referred to as the Adelaide Street sushi shop with the queue) has taken its tasty Japanese cuisine to FudoDori’s laneway. This location steps it up a notch, switching out typical sushi hand rolls for sushi tacos, poke bowls and hot Japanese meals like a chicken curry and karaage don bowl. We’re eyeing up the soft shell crab and spicy tuna sushi tacos.

Sizzling Braised Pot – Classic hot pot

Fudo Dori

Sizzling Braised Pot is serving up a selection of classic (and delicious) Chinese Food from its Elizabeth St laneway location. The top menu picks are the original crispy fried chicken (drools) and the Sichuan style spicy beef rice noodle soup.

Mallee Specialty Coffee 

Looking for a hot or cold drink on the fly? Mallee Specialty Coffee has you covered. The cafe opts for Industry Beans for its brews, and offers a sweet little range of pastries for your mid-morning pick-me-up.

Fill The Bowl – weigh-and-pay soups

Known as Malatang, this is a popular street food dish in Beijing. The concept is simple – head over to the buffet-like, sandwich-bar style counter and fill your bowl with everything from noodles and vegetables to meatballs and offal. Your bowl is weighed and priced and then you wait for it to return filled with very hot soup. You can then add toppings and flavours to your soup like garlic, chilli and soy.
