Little-known labels we love (and where to shop them in The City)

The great thing about shopping in Brisbane City is the variety. From high-street staples to designer gear, we’ve got all the must-have fashion labels right here. But what you might not know is The City is also home to some covetable global and unisex brands that savvy sartorialists can usually only source online.

Here’s the labels your wardrobe has been missing:

Paloma Wool

Barcelona brand Paloma Wool blends the art of dressing with considered shapes and fabrication. Founder Paloma Lanna places an emphasis on sustainable materials for her womenswear pieces that are more art projects than collections. Shop Paloma Wool clothing and accessories at Double Double

Stone Island

Also at Double Double, Italian menswear label Stone Island aka ‘Stoney’ is a brand that regularly makes headlines for its innovative pieces and high-tech, military-inspired styling. Think hooded jackets, sleek cargos and webbed belts in subdued tones with the occasional breakout hue. Stone Island also made it into the most recent Lyst Index of top 20 brands.

COS

The COS Wintergarden store is the only Queensland outlet for the design-forward Swedish label for men, women and kids. COS (Collection of Style) is renowned for its structural shapes and timeless classics (and unexpected pops of colour), making it the label of choice for minimalists and lovers of Scandi style. Fun fact: COS is part of the H&M fashion empire.

Maje and Sandro Paris

David Jones QueensPlaza has not one but two Parisian it-girl labels in its stable. Maje, by Moroccan-born designer Judith Milgrom, is all about boho feminine styling with slinky silk dresses, cropped leather jackets and collegiate knits straight from the 2nd Arrondissement. Effortlessly edgy, Sandro Paris is the go-to for playful stylish pieces with tomboy appeal that you’ll wear forever.

Soulland

Danish label Soulland blends Scandinavian style principles with a modern aesthetic and eco-friendly fabrication. Founded by designer Silas Adler, the high-end streetwear brand is known for its logo tees and artist collabs in graphic prints, eye-catching colours and tailored pieces. Shop select Soulland menswear drops at Contra on Charlotte Street.

Marimekko

Run, don’t walk – the Marimekko x Uniqlo collab is the Scandi style you’ve been looking for. The Finnish design house has been around since 1951 and is famous for its bright graphic prints and bold colours. The limited-edition collection has pieces for women and kids – we love the boxy parkas and oversize linen dresses in fun, vibrant prints. Bring on summer!

Arc’teryx

Not just for kicks, Laced also has a curated collection of apparel. One of our faves is Canadian outerwear brand Arc’teryx. The high-tech and innovative performance brand is as beloved by the street style set as it is by the climbers, hikers and alpine adventurers it was built for. You’ll find select everyday menswear collection clothing and accessories at the Adelaide Street store.
