Picnic spots in Brisbane City
If you’re planning a picnic for your loved one or want a grassy plot to eat your lunch, we've put together your go-to list of beautiful green spaces with trees aplenty found in Brisbane City.
Across the road from each other, both Anzac Square and Post Office Square offer some lovely open greenery that’s perfect for a picnic. Next to Central Station, the inner city aspect of the square’s make them easily accessible by public transport. Anzac Square offers more shade, but Brisbane City’s Chairs2Share initiative means you won’t need a picnic blanket in Post Office Square.
Located next door to QUT’s Gardens Point campus, the City Botanic Gardens has so many beautiful spots for a picnic and is only a short walk across the Goodwill Bridge from the South Bank bus and train stations. The gardens have wheelchair access, barbeques, picnic shelters and an accessible and inclusive playground, so you can bring your children along and still relax. If you don’t want to bring your own food, you can pre-order a picnic basket from The Gardens Club and pick it up on the day.
Featuring a recently refurbished fountain, E. E. McCormick Place is a small but beautiful park with a peaceful atmosphere. Soak up some sun and let the fountain be the background music to your picnic.
King Edward Park is located right on the border of The City and Spring Hill, and features an iconic Jacob’s Ladder staircase to go between the upper and lower levels of the city. There’s plenty of trees that create lots of shaded areas as well as a few bench chairs spread throughout. Before you start eating, take a walk through the gardens to look at some of the sculptures and public art.
Roma Street Parkland is easily accessible with Roma Street Station located right next door. The parkland's include 16 hectares of open greenery, shaded areas and flower gardens. Enjoy a walk through the beautiful Spectacle Garden and treat yourself to a delicious dessert from the Melange Café overlooking the parkland’s waterfalls.
