Valentines Day Date Ideas in Brisbane City

February 14. There’s a lot of pressure riding on this day, and whether you’re trying to impress your soul mate or Tinder date you’ll need fresh ideas. From an upmarket dinner for two with champagne and river views, through to a picnic in the park or mystery trail through the CBD – read on to find ways to celebrate your love in Brisbane City this Valentine’s Day.

Classic dinner dates

A table for two? Easy. Classic. Text book romance. If your girl or guy likes good food, treat them to a night worth remembering at one of the city’s finest restaurants. If your girl or guy just wants to spend time together, do it over champagne and three courses like a baller.

We’ve rounded up four new and old favourites in the CBD below, but there’s also full and comprehensive list of Valentine’s Day dining in Brisbane City over here.

For Italian food

OTTO

OTTO has our hearts here. With the two-hatted Italian diner you can stick to three courses (your choice) with a cocktail on arrival ($145pp), or go big with fancy champagne and a dozen oysters on top, or add Caviar Service. Swish!

For award-winning food

Treat your special someone to a two-hatted dining experience at this Brisbane bucket-list restaurant. Enjoy a glass of champagne on arrival at ARIA Brisbane followed by a decadent three-course meal for $160pp.

For fancy Chinese

Book into this super chic new restaurant with big chandeliers and pastel tones. Donna Chang is the perfect setting for a four-course meal ($98pp), and of course you’re adding wine ($40pp).

For Michelin dining

A Michelin-starred chef has brought his signature Asian-Indian gastronomy to Brisbane. On V-Day Heritij is offering four courses with sunset views from the terrace, a rose and champagne for $90pp.

Staycation in the CBD

Treat yourself and your date to a night in the city – with a breakfast buffet in the morning. It’s the perfect end to a dinner date or cocktail and dancing crawl of the city, or you could just book a massage, use the spa, and stay in for the night with room service. The choice is ultimately yours. Check out Brisbane CBD hotels here.

Helicopter ride above the city

Take your date on a sky-high adventure with a sunset helicopter tour above Brisbane City. It’s exhilarating flying with the doors off above the CBD, and V2 Helicopters can make the magic happen.

Add a pop of history

ClockTower

If your date is a history lover, start your Valentine’s Day date with a free tour up Brisbane City Hall’s clock tower. You can also check out the Easton Pearson exhibition at the Museum of Brisbane on the way out.

Watch an award-winning Indonesian film

Screening as a special event at the Museum of Brisbane (in conjuction with the Asia Pacific Screen Awards), catch the 2017 Best Youth Feature Film The Seen and Unseen. It will be played to celebrate the best of Asian cinema during BrisAsia Festival. V-Day. 6.45pm.

Go on a cute bowling date

Cheap, cheerful and competitive. Home to 12 bowling lanes, a laser tag arena and pool tables, Strike Bowling in Wintergarden has ways to woo your date. You’ll be able to grab a beer or cocktail plus pizza while you play. Perfect.

Cocktails and dancing dreams

Riverbar

We’re big fans of the city’s bar scene – so here are a few gems you can cart your hot date over to. Try The Gresham for its old world charm and fine whisky selection; John Mills Himself for an intimate space with local drops; Boom Boom Room for slick cocktails in an opulent setting; and lastly Mr & Mrs G’s, Riverbar, Blackbird or WET Deck for cold drinks by the riverfront. Now it’s time to boogie. Take your pick between underground jazz bar Doo Bop, with its live tunes and tapas until very, very late. Or head to Brooklyn Standard for funky live beats where you can really let your hair down.

Chase the romance of yesteryear

Kookaburra River Queens

Embrace the old world charm of the Kookaburra Queen paddle wheelers on a special V-Day dinner cruise. Soak in the city lights from the river while sharing an antipasto and prawn plate, three-tiered table buffet, dessert and drinks. There’s entertainment on board that will get you dancing too.

Climb the Story Bridge together

For a super-cute and exhilarating date, ascend the Story Bridge to experience awe-inspiring 360 degree views of Brisbane City, the river, mountain ranges and Moreton Bay Islands with the Story Bridge Adventure Climb. As of writing this, there are still spots available on the day, twilight and night climbs. Run, don’t walk!

Get to the picture theatre

Elizabeth Picture Theatre

Channel vintage vibes and check out the Elizabeth Picture Theatre. The cinema is screening Breakfast at Tiffany’s and What Men Want with a special offer for couples. Kicking off at 6.30pm, it’s $70 per couple for tickets, sweet and savoury canapés and a drink on arrival. Alternatively, head to the top of The Myer Centre for all the latest blockbusters along with a Vmax experience at the Event Cinema theatre.

Picnic date never fails

Even haters of the Hallmark Holiday can’t help but be charmed by a simple picnic. No need to fuss in the kitchen – you can pick up everything you need ready made in the CBD. Order an artisan cheese hamper at Brisbane City's fromagerie, The Cheese Pleaser, or drop into The Cutting Board gourmet carvery before settling in at one of the CBD's beautiful green picnic spots or roll out the rug next to the river at sunset. Add the famous, handmade Dello Mano brownies or I Heart Brownies to your picnic basket for something extra special.

Create a cute trail through the City

Last year our cynicism faded away after hearing about a coworker whose boyfriend set up a simple but adorable V-Day mystery trail. When she went out for afternoon coffee, he’d prepaid for it at her favourite spot (Edward, FYI). The barista told her to then go to Noosa Chocolate Factory. Here she was met with “awwws” from the staff and handed a package filled with chocolates, flowers and a handwritten card. Cute.
