It’s the beginning of a new decade – which always means new possibilities and often leads to reflecting on the past year or 10. If you made a promise to yourself to get fit or move your body more in 2020 and beyond, we have a few free or low cost ideas below to kick start your journey. On top of that it’s still the school holidays so we’ve added a few fun ways to distract the kids, plus we know where to hear living legend Daryl Braithwaite play The Horses on Australia Day. Taking over part of Roma Street Parkland until the end of March, we think January is a prime month to go. There’s everything on the big screen – blockbuster hits Ford V Ferrari or Joker, plus stacks of kids movies (perfect for the holidays).

MOB Kids: Summer Fun

The Museum of Brisbane’s huge summer program for kids continues in January. All month the interactive museum is running free and cheap activities for kids of all ages that take inspiration from the current exhibition, High Rotation. Some highlights include the Kids Fanzine Project with Jeremy Staples on January 11, the Silent Disco on January 18, and the Screen Print Wall Banners on January 21 & 23. Bookings recommended.

Ready to kick putt? Holey Moley recently swung open the doors on a new golf club inside the Wintergarden centre on Queen Street Mall. There’s nine holes to putt your stuff with names like ‘Drop it Like It’s Slot’. Sounds like the perfect excuse to get the kids out of the house or distract yourself from a self-imposed digital detox, because #newyearnewyou. 

Ride The Horses this Australia Day
