Riverstage Birthday Bash: Hot Dub Time Machine + more

September 7, Brisbane RiverstageMusic fest favourite, Hot Dub Time Machine has travelled sold-out shows around the world and played Coachella, Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival. Dance through the decades with DJ Tom Loud as he fires up the stage with songs from ‘60s rock to ‘90s RnB to today’s radio hits, including a special 30th Riverstage birthday countdown. Hot Dub Time Machine will be joined by an epic line-up including Cub Sport, Confidence Man, Last Dinosaurs and Clea.

August 30 - April 19 2020, Museum of BrisbaneHigh Rotation is a backstage pass covering three huge decades of Brisbane’s music scene. Explore the city’s big moments in music from 1989 to 2019 with rare, remastered film clips and an immersive digital experience following artists as they exploded from the local scene onto national and international stages. An intrinsic part of Brisbane’s cultural backbone, the music exhibition pays homage to music legends, including Kev Carmody, Powderfinger, Custard, Regurgitator and Savage Garden as well as rising stars including WAAX, Thelma Plum, and Confidence Man.

Sunsuper Riverfire

September 28, entertainment from 4pm, fireworks from 7pmThe night sky is a blank canvas and Riverfire returns every September to paint with light. Bigger than New Year’s Eve, the spectacular fireworks event is a Brisbane favourite and fitting end to three huge weeks of Queensland’s largest arts and cultural event, Brisbane Festival. This year the pyrotechnic masterpiece will be set to an epic soundtrack celebrating 1989, the year the Riverstage opened. Fireworks will go off from multiple bridges, barges and city rooftops, with aerobatics from the Australian Defence Force. Arrive incredibly early by the waterfront to nab a key vantage point, or better yet – make a reservation at a riverside restaurant.

Fire Gardens, Brisbane Festival

Over four nights, a troupe of French artists will light up the City Botanic Gardens into a maze-like dreamscape of mystery and revelation. For more than 20 years, French artists Compagnie Carabosse have been using fire to create an otherworldly experience designed to spark your imagination, touch your heart and fill up your senses. No installation is ever the same, but expect the City Botanic Garden to be filled with huge spheres of leaping flames, flickering sculptures that dance, fiery urns that cause shadows to play, and a brilliant soundtrack.

Popping up in Reddacliff Place, the UK immersive-theatre company is bringing a shipping container decked out as a commercial liner – so strap yourself in a prepare for a dark flight to nowhere.

August 31 - September 6, Brisbane ArcadeExplore Brisbane Arcade when it explodes with bright colours and floral scents for the 6th annual Spring Flower Show. For one week only the heritage multi-level arcade will be filled with larger-than-life #instagramworthy flower installations. This year’s theme is “jewel in the crown” as a tribute to the beloved arcade’s 95th anniversary.
