Carnarvon Gorge - Group-Guided
This is the ultimate winter walking escape in the heart of the Queensland outback. Fabulous warm days and cool evenings coupled with Australia’s best kept secret Carnarvon Gorge.
We’ve made it very easy by starting the walk in Roma, a quick flight from Brisbane averting the 12 hr drive, but this is made possible only with Auswalk. There is no other way to get to remote Carnarvon but to drive, acting as a gatekeeper, creating an atmosphere of splendid isolation in a unique natural wonderland.
Spring fed Carnarvon Creek carves a twisted route through the spectacular sandstone gorge. The clarity of the permanent water is particularly impressive. No wonder it took 10000 years to filter through the sandstone to get to the creek; a creek that nurtures strands of cabbage palms, pockets of remnant rainforest and rare king ferns with five metre fronds, a landscape with a prehistoric feel.
We allow time for the important things, to take a swim in the crystal clear Carnarvon Creek and to relax and enjoy the magnificent lodge precinct. We also will get to experience the beauty of one of Australia’s best kept secrets from the air with a scenic helicopter flight.
Per person twin share. Single supplement of AUD 395 is payable for a single room.
Carnarvon Gorge & the Wild West - Group-Guided
In Bunya, you’ll spend two nights in large Chalets with ensuite rooms. At Cania we stay in cabins. For the next 3 nights, we stay at Carnarvon Wilderness Lodge in luxury glamping tents right in the heart of the park. The last night is spent in Roma in a very comfortable motel. All the rooms have ensuites.
Every night the two course dinners will be prepared by professional chefs. The meals at Carnarvan are special affairs and include three-course dinners with an emphasis on local produce. At Bunya, we get to try Bunya nuts which are an indigenous delicacy.
The packed lunches and picnics complete the circle ensuring that your appetite is always satisfied. You can look forward to having lunch at some of the most incredible locations that this country has to offer. A walkers lunch may include a high protein type salad, a roll or a wrap, a muesli bar, cake or muffin and a piece of fruit. Each day is slightly different. Lunch is always augmented by Auswalk’s famous trail mix. You also get to enjoy a lovely sit down a la carte lunch at Carnarvan as a way of saying farewell to this amazing region.

Daintree, Atherton Tablelands, Mossman Gorge & Dunk Island - Group-Guided
Tropical hiking in the Daintree Rainforest, the Atherton Tablelands, Mossman Gorge, Dunk Island and much more. Walk to waterfalls, through World Heritage rainforests, stroll along isolated tropical beaches, circumnavigate freshwater lakes, see one of the largest trees in Australia and visit a picturesque tropical island – this trip has it all.
At the Atherton Tablelands, we traverse the famous Millaa Millaa Falls. Importantly, the rainforest walks on the trip will lead us away from the tourist route to remote gorges, cascading waterfalls and secluded lakes. In the Daintree World Heritage area we’ll learn about the importance of mangroves, walk to Cape Tribulation and enjoy a two-night stay at a rainforest retreat.
At Mossman Gorge National Park, we’ll trek with the Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal people and learn about their bush foods, medicine and way of life. A highlight for many will be three nights at Mission Beach where we’ll enjoy beach walks, rainforest hikes and a day of walking on nearby Dunk Island.
Per person twin share. Single supplement of AUD 715 is payable for a single room.
Fraser Island - Self-Guided
The Aboriginals call this Island K’gari (meaning paradise) because there’s something undoubtedly special about Fraser Island. Its bountiful forests, picture-perfect beaches, azure seas and freshwater lakes have all earned it World Heritage-listed status. The Fraser Island Great Walk is undoubtedly the best way to experience all of this.
Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island. It consists purely of sand and yet it supports large stands of lush tropical rainforest. On this Fraser Island trip, you’ll see an extraordinary array of buttress-rooted trees, strangler figs, rare primitive cycads and huge satinays. Some of the massive trees are more than 6 metres wide and over 1000 years old. The sands also support more than forty crystal-clear freshwater lakes. Our favourite, Lake McKenzie, is rightfully known as the jewel of Fraser Island. Don’t forget to pack the swimming gear.
Much of the walking is remote, enabling you to immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of this unblemished natural environment entirely away from the busy tourist routes. The island also abounds with wildlife, whales, wallabies, dolphins and dugongs frolic and roam freely. It’s also a bird lover’s paradise with over 240 species recorded in the area.
Per person twin share. Single supplement of AUD 630 is payable for a single room.
Gold Coast Hinterland - 5 or 7-Day Self-Guided
The journey begins with a private transfer from anywhere in the Gold Coast (or airport) to the Gold Coast Hinterland, the largest protected area of subtropical rainforest in the world, with sizeable warm temperate rainforest and nearly all of Australia’s remaining Antarctic beech cool temperate rainforest. Here, massive Strangler Figs, ancient Antarctic beech, Red Cedar, Rosewood and Booyongs tower overhead whilst hundreds of different species of palms, vines, ferns and orchids flourish beneath.
