Your guide to Howard Smith Wharves

Well on the road to becoming Brisbane’s ultimate foodie and lifestyle precinct, Howard Smith Wharves (HSW) has to be at the top of your Brisbane bucket list. Take in the prime riverfront views and city vistas under the Story Bridge. A trendy hub built off the rich history of the pre-1940 Port of Brisbane. We expect you’ll be making yourself acquainted very soon!

How it began

The site is steeped in history, originally built in the 1930s and largely abandoned since the 1960s when the port moved further downstream. Spaces including air-raid shelters, a two-storey office building and wharfage are now heritage-listed and a rare surviving example of early infrastructure in the city.

The team behind the HSW precinct worked on the ethos of bringing new life into the wharves. A historic site has been respectfully revamped to bring a one-of-a-kind experience to Brisbane, whilst staying true to its rich history.

Where to eat

Greca

Slip away to Mykonos for the night at the Greek haven otherwise known as Greca. Sit riverside or inside their white interior and settle in for a feast that will leave you full to the brim, but wanting more. Our hot tip, get the saganaki - it’s to die for, and paired perfectly with their signature pita bread. Make sure you book, because Greca is on everyone’s hot list!

Yoko

If funky Japanese dining is more your style, then look no further than the uber-trendy Yoko Dining. With one of the coolest fit-outs around Brisbane, whether you’re inside or out you’ll be amazed. You have to start with one of their signature cocktails, from a yuzu and rum sorbet to a Japanese martini, you won’t go thirsty. Pair it off with their extensive menu, best shared so you get to try all the flavours on offer. Also a popular destination, so make sure you get on the list.

Ciao Papi

For mouth-watering Italian tucked away in a peaceful riverside location, Ciao Papi will open its warm carb-alicious arms to you. A terrace-style setting with one of the best views of the Story Bridge and city skyline in Brisbane, their extensive menu will keep you satisfied from breakfast, to a wine and dine lunch through to a hearty dinner. Their pastas and pizzas are as authentic as they come, paired perfectly with a glass of your choice - bellissimo!

Stanley Restaurant

Polpetta

There is certainly no shortage of Italian deliciousness along the Wharves. Tucked underneath the Fantauzzo is this Italian gem, with pizzas and pastas you’ll dream about until you go back again!

Betty’s Burgers

Sometimes there’s nothing better than a burger and Betty’s does them top-notch! If you’re after a more casual feed to have riverside, then this is the spot for you.

Goodtimes Gelateria

You know what they say, nothing is complete without ice cream. The Wharves don’t leave your sweet tooth pining, with the resident ice-creamery Goodtimes Gelateria. Pop over for a sweet treat post (or pre, we won’t tell) tasty meal.

Where to drink

Felons Brewing Co.

The HSW icon, Felon’s Brewing Co. One of the first to pop itself in the now bustling precinct, Felons has only grown bigger and better over time, but is still brewing their classic Brisbane riverside beers. A super popular spot for an afternoon drink, and open late into the night. You won’t need to go bar-hopping with this on the agenda.

Felons Barrell Hall

Sister venue to Felons Brewing Co, and located just next door, Felons Barrel Hall is a modern Australian take on a German beer hall. With picnic style tables, ping pong tables and live music every weekend, not to mention a menu filled with unpredictable yet delicious flavours designed to compliment the refreshing Felon’s beer, it’s safe to say this has become one of Brisbane’s ultimate weekend destinations – get amongst it!

Mr Percival’s

For a touch of class, head to the HSW’s overwater bar, Mr. Percival’s. Famously known for their selection of cocktails, and late-night atmosphere with a DJ perched above their 360 degree bar, Percival’s is a popular spot. Worth the weekend wait to get in!

Fiume Bar

The rooftop resident of the Fantauzzo has your panoramic views sorted. An outdoor bar, terrace and complete with the finishing touch of their infinity pool, this is the ultimate place to sip your Aperol Spritz.

Where to stay

The Fantauzzo

The resident hotel of the HSW precinct takes its name from acclaimed Australian painter Vincent Fantauzzo. As trendy as it gets, the Fantauzzo features three original artworks and 500 giclee prints of Fantauzzo’s most recognised work. This is where creativity, inspiration and relaxation come together. With 166 suites, a rooftop pool overlooking the Wharves and all the food and drink options you could think of at your doorstep, there’ll be no need to leave.
